BROCKWAY — Thirty-four degress with a brisk breeze is the perfect football weather.

But when it comes to a good, old-fashioned futbol game, it's less than ideal.

Regardless of the conditions in Brockway, the boys' soccer team walked away from its first-round playoff match against Clearfield as the 4-1 winner.

"This was cold, but I'll take it," head coach Phil Shenkle said. "I was afraid it was going to be wet and gross. This was perfect."

Updated: Trick-or-treat, Halloween event schedule

Here’s a list of local trick-or-treat/Halloween events:

• Big Run Borough — Big Run Borough will hold trick or treat from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Trick-or-treaters are to go only to homes with the porch light on.

• Brookville — Halloween will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 31. The parade will be held at 5 p.m., starting at the Y.M.C.A. and ending at the Brookville Fire Dept. on Madison Avenue. Trick-or-treating will begin at 5:30 p.m., immediately after the parade, and will continue until 8 p.m.

Familiar Faces Friday! Bill Vassallo

The point of the project will be to highlight a member of the community who may be recognizable to many and tell his or her story. Today’s familiar face is Bill Vassallo.)

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Bill Vassallo is a recognizable face.

You may recognize him as the athletic director at Punxsutawney Area High School who often oversees the games, or perhaps he is most recognizable as the 9th-grade American history and world cultures teacher at PAHS.

PCS senior Martino organizing blood drive to help community

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On Friday, Nov. 1, Punxsutawney Christian School will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive in the school gym from noon to 6 p.m.

Julia Martino, a PCS senior, is organizing the drive through the Red Cross Educational Scholarship Program. The program allows students to help others in their community and around the region while raising college scholarship funds.

Lee “Eagle” Anderson, 74

Lee “Eagle” Anderson, 74, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Punxsutawney and Kersey, Pa., passed on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.

He was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Rochester, a son of the late Lee O. and Virginia (Bailey) Anderson.

Lee served a brief time with the U.S. Air Force.

He was a former employee of IBM Metals, Ridgway, and also worked construction for most of his adult life.

He loved the outdoors, and after earning the Eagle Scout Award at an early age, his heart was devoted to scouting.

Lee served in scouting for more than 40 years.
