CELEBRATING A YEAR OF GRACE: Apartment complex marks one-year milestone

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It was a celebration — albeit a small one — as the first anniversary of the opening of Grace Place Apartments at the corner of Pine and North Gilpin streets took place Friday.

The income-based apartment complex officially opened for business Dec. 16, 2011, as the ribbon was cut by a host of dignitaries on that cold December day.

An Explosion of Powder
An explosion of fifty pounds of powder and several sticks of dynamite, which had been placed near a fire to thaw out, yesterday morning at the new glass works cite at DuBois, seriously injured Abraham Horn, a laborer, aged fifty, and also knocked down and hurt three other men who were working close by.

5th-grade girls claim crown at Indiana Tourney

The Punxsy/S.S.C.D 5th-grade girls' basketball team claimed the eight-team Indiana Tournament championship over the Dec. 27-29 weekend.

The squad, which has a 20-0 season record, went undefeated and stormed past Penns Manor, 30-4, in the championship contest.

6th-grade girls' fall short of Indiana Tourney title

The Punxsy/S.S.C.D 6th-grade girls' basketball team made a strong showing but fell just short of prevailing in the Indiana Tournament last weekend.

Blairsville took the title over a battle worn Punxsy team, which was playing its sixth game of the day.

The team was comprised of (front row, from left) Kassidy Graham, Kate Horner, Magen Ray, Emily Griebel; (back row) coach Julie Horner, Cassidy Reed, Bailey Jones, Kylee Shoemaker, Abby Gemmell and coach Steve Greibel.

Betty Lou Carr, 64

Betty Lou Carr, 64, of Punxsutawney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Carr was born Oct. 4, 1948, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Clyde E. Dinger and Mary Ellen (Lettie) Dinger.

Sept. 10, 1966, she married her husband, Darl P. Carr, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Betty Lou was a member of the Dora Evangelical Church.

She was a 1966 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, a tax collector for Porter Township and an EMT for the Ringgold and Perry Township Volunteer Fire Companies.
