Groundhog Court selected at PAHS; King, Queen to be crowned Thursday

PUNXSUTAWNEY — PAHS seniors have selected four boys and four girls to make up the 2013 Groundhog Court.

The court will be honored during an assembly to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. At that time, the 2013 Groundhog King and Queen will be crowned.

This year’s court includes Alysha Bridge, Alexah Fedigan, Jeane Pifer, Carley Smith, Drew Cooper, Pasquale Defelice, Taylor Phillips and Austin Sabatucci.

• Alysha Danielle Bridge is the daughter of Michael and Rae Ann Bridge of Timblin.

She is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.

It must be a sign! JOC hears case for school sign from metal fab students

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — Two Jeff Tech students presented a mock-up for the proposed sign to be placed on the front of the school building at Monday's Joint Operating Committee (JOC) meeting.

Jeremy Fotta and Dylen Campbell, Jeff Tech metal fabrication students, presented the results of the research for the proposed sign as to what would be the least expensive and most feasible.

Campbell said it would cost $3,200 for aluminum, which would weigh approximately 900 pounds.

Get ‘em while they’re hot! WPC to bring flaming pizzas, other tricks to town

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It's a spicy, hot pizza — and we do mean hot — when World Pizza Champion (WPC) Patt Miller returns to Punxsutawney to flip his flaming pizzas as part of this weekend's Groundhog Day festivities.

Rob McCoy, director of the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC), said Miller will headline several performances in the Jackson Theater and in Barclay Square throughout the holiday weekend.
