PUNXSUTAWNEY â Not every win goes exactly as planned. Wednesday night was one of those victories for the Chucks basketball team, which hosted Keystone and squeezed by the Panthers, 50-47, in overtime to improve to 10-4 this season.
Punxsy head coach Dirk Neal said after the game that he knew from the beginning his team had to jump on Keystone or the Panthers would be dangerous if allowed to hang around.
For as long as I can remember, there are two men I could have been speaking of when I simply called someone Coach: My former hockey coach Doc Snyder and Joe Paterno.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is preparing to welcome its ninth inductee into the National Meteorologist Hall of Fame, Fred Gadomski, the host and co-producer of âWeather World,â a 15-minute nightly weather magazine program produced by the Penn State Weather Communications Group.
He will be inducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 â Groundhog Day â at the Weather Discovery Center, Punxsy.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Next Wednesday, the Punxsy Elks Club will host its 14th annual comedy night. The show will feature Michaelangelo as emcee and headliner Dan Long.
Long, an Ohio Native, has performed his high-energy act all over the country. A master of impressions, Long performs a spot-on impersonation of Jack Nicholson, Johnny Carson and others.
A former writer for âThe Tonight Show,â this veteran of the stand-up comedy scene has performed from coast to coast.

Punxsy picks up win, but struggles on the mat
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Although some follow the old adage, "The numbers never lie," Tuesday night's wrestling match between the Chucks and the Clarion Bobcats proved to be a counterexample to the theory, with the Bobcats falling 30-21 to Punxsy despite only losing one match on the mat.
Marred by injuries, Clarion's squad dressed just five grapplers Tuesday, and four of the five earned victories.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Over the weekend, the town of Punxsutawney â more specifically the Punxsutawney Area Community Center and SS.C.D. â hosted 14 different sixth-grade basketball teams, both boys' and girls' for an annual tournament.
Four different Punxsutaw- ney teams participated, and others traveled from Marion Center, Brookville, Penns Manor and as far away as Butler to participate.
No tournament champion was crowned in either division, but each team was guaranteed three to four games to gain valuable experience.

DA: The blood cries out for guilty verdict; jury hears it
BROOKVILLE â In his closing statement of Steven P. Rebertâs double murder trial Tuesday, District Attorney Jeffery Burkett invoked the voice of one of the victims, Wayne Shugar, and asked that the jury hear that voice, as well.
âThe blood of Wayne Shugar cries out in this courtroom,â Burkett said, citing evidence that showed four spots of Shugarâs blood on the bottom of Rebertâs work boots.
âYour DNA is the content of your person: Itâs responsible for your eye color, your personality, your height,â he said.
BROOKVILLE â During his closing arguments in the seventh day of Steven P. Rebertâs double homicide trial, defense attorney and public defender John Ingros told the jury that it has seen more than 300 exhibits and heard testimony about the victimsâ kitchen, knickknacks on the counter, the locations of âevery door and window,â the yard, where the vehicles were parked and even an incomplete bedroom on the second floor of their home.
But, Ingros asked, âAre you any closer to helping you decideâ Rebertâs innocence or guilt. âWhat did you really learn?
BROOKVILLE â A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jorden M. Bogacki, 27, Reynoldsville, on escape charges.
According to Jefferson County jail Warden Tom Elbel, Bogacki was sentenced to 45 days of jail time to be served on weekends in 48-hour periods.
However, Bogacki failed to report to the jail Friday, Jan. 20, and has not been located since, Adult Probation Officer Adam Oakes said.
According to Oakes, Bogacki works in the area and has served several hours of his jail time so far.
State police have been notified, and warrants have been issued for him.
