PUNXSUTAWNEY â The environmental clean-up of the Mahoning Shadow Trail will finally be completed this week, months after a fuel spill that occurred when a box truck crashed over the side of a bridge and landed on the trail, according to Borough Manager Ben White.
During Tuesday's Public Safety meeting, the environmental cleanup which will be completed this week.
"The company that was contracted to clean up the spill should be finished this week," White said during Tuesday's Public Safety meeting. The trail cleanup was supervised by Tracy Zents and Jefferson County Emergency Services.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â The bad news for the Chucks boys' basketball team after their 47-45 loss at Elk County Catholic last Friday was they had fallen from a tie for first in the District-IX standings to a tie for fourth, but the good news was they still had three league games remaining. And with three wins, Punxsy would still find itself in good position to compete for the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.
Tuesday night, Punxsy began that hopeful trek back to the top with a 47-40 victory over the Flying Dutch of St. Marys in Punxsutawney.
ST. MARYS â With the Punxsy boys' basketball team hosting the Flying Dutch of St. Marys Tuesday night, the Lady Chucks took to the road to St. Marys with one thing on their minds: Earning a sweep over the Lady Dutch in District-IX play this season.
The Lady Chucks had positioned themselves to do so with a 62-50 home win over St. Marys Jan. 17, and Punxsy reached its goal of a sweep with a 42-36 victory over the Lady Dutch in St. Marys.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â PennDOT District 10-0 has granted tentative approval for Punxsutawney Borough Council to lower the speed limit to 35 mph from 45 mph on Route 119 (Indiana Hill).
Tuesday, during a meeting of councilâs Public Safety Committee, Borough Manager Ben White said last year, council requested that PennDOT perform a traffic study on Route 119 between the bridge over Mahoning Creek to the bridge over the Mahoning Shadow Trail, so the speed limit could be changed from 45 mph to 35 mph, in order to transition to the 25 mph speed zone.
BROOKVILLE â As Gov. Tom Corbett delivered his budget proposal Tuesday, Doug Hill, the executive director for the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) predicts the budget for fiscal year 2012-13 to be a âwatershed budget.â
The state is anticipating a $500 million deficit resulting from the current fiscal year, which could call for a complete restructuring of programs.
Marion "Mimi" Lockard, 78, Brookville, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Clarion Hospital.
She was born April 13, 1933, in Chest Township, Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Harry C. and Thelma (Witherite) Smith.
Aug. 26, 1950, she married James T. Lockard, who survives.
Mrs. Lockard was a homemaker who enjoyed her family and friends. She also attended the Church of Christ in Brookville.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â After months of planning and weeks of preparation, itâs hard to believe that Groundhog Day is over for another year.
Bill Deeley, Inner Circle president, is citing 2012 as a huge success compared to 2011.
âItâs amazing, the difference of the weather being 25 degrees warmer, no snow to move around and no ice to contend with will do for attendance,â he said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Itâs always a plus when students have an administrator who admires their behavior, and thatâs something that the students at Punxsutawney Christian School have going for them.
âIâm amazed by the behavior of the kids,â said Tonya Woodel, who has served as PCSâ new administrator since July 2011, succeeding Jolanda Tibbs. âThey are self-motivated, and they take care of each other.â
That quite a change from her last school, in Lamar, S.C., where the poverty rate ranged from 85 to 90 percent, and the school experienced some gang-related violence.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Last Tuesday, Punxsy's junior high wrestling team met a much larger Hollidaysburg team that filled each necessary weight class, and despite outdoing Hollidaysburg 27-18 on the mat, the Chucks again fell because they had a smaller squad, 48-27, to the Golden Tigers.
EDINBORO â Saturday, a group of Punxsy athletes traveled to Edinboro for the second consecutive weekend to compete at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association's Meet No. 3 at Edinboro University, and in their final qualifying attempt of the year, several of the athletes positioned themselves to possibly compete at the Tri-State Championship Meet Feb. 18 at Edinboro.
Punxsy head coach John Smith said the athletes that put themselves in the best position to qualify were those on the distance medley relay team, which ran an overall time of 12:25.12 Saturday.
