AREA AGENCY ON AGING WANTS TO KNOW: Who is Jefferson County’s oldest resident?

February 9, 2012

BROOKVILLE — Since its inception, the Jefferson County Area Agency on Aging (JCAAA) has tried to provide county residents with resources that would allow them to stay in their homes longer.

But for the agency to continue to be a vital asset to the county’s older citizens, it is seeking help from one specific source — the county’s oldest resident.

“I think there’s so much history out there that we need to embrace,” JCAAA Executive Director Randy Davis said. “We want to ask, ‘How’d you make it? How’d you get there?’ We want to know the secrets to his or her success.”

February 9, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — When the starting lineups were announced Wednesday night at PAHS, it appeared as if the Punxsy Chucks wrestling team would be at a severe disadvantage with three scheduled forfeits and two regulars out of the lineup. But Punxsy shuffled the lineup around and managed to pull off a surprising 39-30 victory over St. Marys in Punxsutawney.

"I'm really proud of the way these guys wrestled tonight," Punxsy head coach Eric Eddy said after the match. "We didn't give up a bunch of pins where we couldn't afford to, and it was just a great team effort."

The Zak Zone

Unlike last year, when my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl, the team I was cheering for this season was actually victorious.

Of course, I wasn't as emotionally invested in this year's game, but there were definitely a few reasons I was cheering for the New York Giants over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Say! What is that white material on this Phantastic Phil!’s paws, nose and top hat? Oh yes, it’s snow, as evidenced by flurries Wednesday, almost a week after Punxsutawney Phil’s prognostication of six more weeks of winter. And some people thought Punxsy Phil’s Groundhog Day prediction was off the mark. Well, turns out he was right again — as usual! (Photo by Dan Long)
