Tuesday, June 26, Jeremy Tagliaferre — a Reynoldsville native who currently resides in Falmouth, Massachusetts — set out on a journey that many would never dream of completing: a cross country trek.
A cross country trip by any means of transportation is intimidating enough, as a trip in even the most comfortable car would certainly leave any individual with some aches and pains, but Tagliaferre’s journey followed a less traditional mode: bicycle.
Tagliaferre said the idea for this particular trip was inspired by another he took in 2007 when he hiked the Appalachian Trail.
Nora B. (Lake) Barclay, 93, of Chalk, Hill, Pa., a great lady, went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
She served others rather than herself.
Nora was born June 11, 1919, in Elliottsville, Pa., a daughter of Walter Lake and Sarah (Stanton) Lake.
She was a member of the Chalk Hill Methodist Church.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — For the second-straight season, the Punxsutawney Alumni proved too tough against area alumni competition.
The Chucks stuffed the Marion Center Stingers, 28-0, in a complete team effort.
The Punxsy defense forced four turnovers and allowed a meager 24 yards of offense to Marion Center.Â
The defense stuffed the Stingers to a tune of -12 yards rushing on 19 carries including -22 yards on eight tries in the second half while allowing 36 yards through the air.
BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Raiders came from behind to beat the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen 19-15 Friday night, thanks to a clutch 90-yard punt return from Braiden Smith in the fourth quarter.
Despite Brookville's offensive shortcomings in the first half, the defense played tough all night to keep the game in reach.
"The defense buckled down a lot more than we have in years. The red zone defense played super, and we created a couple of turnovers that helped us out," said varsity coach Chris Dworek.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — State Rep. Sam Smith, the local National Guard, members of the community and the staff of Joe's Drive-In gathered at the restaurant/ice cream shop on Saturday to commemorate the unveiling of the famous giant wooden groundhog.
The groundhog had been taken down for repairs and renovations after it was struck by a vehicle back in April.
However, it's back now and more or less "exactly the way it was," said Joe Sikora Jr., the owner of Joe's Drive-In.
Senior cheerleader Kelsey Snyder presents Head Cheerleading Coach Julie Baun with a check before Friday night’s game against DuBois.
Kelsey’s senior project was a chicken BBQ to raise money so the Varsity Cheerleaders could purchase "Spirit" buses for the cheerleaders and students to go to away games this season.
The project netted $1,500.

SUDDEN DEATH OF JACKSON PIFER
Jackson Pifer, a well known citizen of Clayville, died very suddenly last Monday evening. He was in his usual health, and had brought a load of coal to G.W. Porter's machine shops.
Ronald Maxwell McGregor, 74, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born May 6, 1938, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Wayne Maxwell McGregor and Evelyn Louise (McDivitt) McGregor.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 50 years, Novelda "Val" (Taylor ) McGregor, of Punxsutawney.
He owned and operated McGregor Industries Inc.
Ron loved traveling with his wife and spending time in the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

REYNOLDSVILLE — Growing up, you may have seen roller derby on the television, but most probably think of it as a professional-wrestling-like act, set mostly for entertainment.
But a group of women from across the county have started gathering at the Reynoldsville Rollerdrome for a very different style than has become television folklore.
Chucks fans flocked to the student section of the stands Friday night at Jack F. LaMarca Stadium in Punxsutawney to cheer on their squad as it faced a rival in the DuBois Beavers.
Unfortunately for Punxsy and its fans, the Beavers overpowered Punxsy en route to a 50-6 victory.
