Pedersen to bring "unique, healing and memorable experience" to those grieving

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Back on March 24, 2009, the community lost a man far too young when Adam Travis passed away.

Out of the tragic event, now three years past, though, Adam's mother, Chris Gigliotti, has found an inspiring way to experience a level of healing.

And thanks to her handiwork, members of the community who have suffered a similar loss will have the opportunity to experience the same when Alan Pedersen brings his and his wife's inspiring Angels Across the U.S.A. program to the Pantall Hotel.

Golden Goose recipient encourages local students to strive for greatness

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Two Punxsutawney men recently received one of the first Golden Goose Awards for a discovery that was initially discovered in 1968.

Eugene White and Rodney White, both from Punxsutawney — actually the Juneau area — along with Della Roy and the late Jon Weber, performed a study of the pore structure of tropical coral which led to the development of an ideal bone graft material that is used commonly in surgery today.

PTAG preparing latest show, “Daddy’s Girl,” promises plenty of laughs and surprises

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Fall rolls in with gales of laughter as the Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild wraps up its 37th season with the premiere of “Daddy’s Girl,” a two-act comedy by Gary Ray Stapp.

The show will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, 11, 12, and 13 at the auditorium of the Punxsutawney Area Middle School.

A Sunday matinee is set for 2 p.m., Oct. 7. Guild veteran performer/director Tracey Young is at the helm of the latest presentation, which features a cast of 13 local actors.

Rose Bernardo (Dicello), 96

Rose Bernardo (Dicello), 96, of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 9, 2012.

A native of Cecil, Pa., she married Frank Bernardo of Rossiter in 1940.

They moved to Detroit, where Frank worked for General Motors while Rose became a homemaker.

Rose lived in Michigan for many years, later moving to Florida and eventually settling in Green Valley near her three sons.

Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, who passed in 1976; sisters Jessie Russo and Angelina Morabito; brothers Frank and Gennar Dicello; and granddaughter Jennifer.

John B. O'Connor, 77

John B. O'Connor, 77, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 21, 1935, in West Springfield, Mass., a son of the late John B. and Lucy Nalwalk O'Connor.

He was a 1953 graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass., and graduated from Western New England College in West Springfield, Mass. with a B.S. degree in engineering.

He was first employed at Monsanto Corp. and then at Pratt Whitney Corp. in Massachusetts.
