PUNXSUTAWNEY — On a beautiful Homecoming night at Jack F. LaMarca Stadium, the Punxsy Chucks’ defense shined and the ground game churned out 386 yards to stride past the Allegheny-Clarion Valley Falcons, 24-6.
After a rocky showing a week ago, the Punxsy defense flexed its muscles against what was a potent Falcons’ offense coming into the contest. For the first 46:42, Punxsy held A-C Valley to 150 yards of total offense including 52 on the ground.
At halftime of Punxsy’s Homecoming football game against A-C Valley Friday, the Homecoming queen and princess were crowned. The court consisted of (from left) Sydney Dubensky and escort Michael Pascuzzo; Alexa Shaffer and escort John Sproull; Mary Sloniger and escort Pat Defelice; Caroline Dunkel and escort Michael Blose; Sydney Weaver and escort Ty Zimmerman; and Chelsea Engeholm and escort Jesse Reichard. Shaffer (second from left) was crowned queen, and Weaver was named princess.
GASKILL TOWNSHIP — Even though summer is coming to a close, the home of Mike and Helen Meko on Jackson Run Road in Gaskill Township continues to be a showplace, as it has been chosen as the final 2012 Garden of the Month by the Punxsutawney Garden Club.
Helen said she is the landscaping designer, and Mike is the worker who brings her visions to life.
"We've been doing landscaping all of our lives," Mike said, adding that they have obtained many of their ideas from their extensive travels.
