An early present: Oak Ridge Boys to bring Christmas concert to Punxsy

PUNXSUTAWNEY — You've heard ofChristmas in July, but how about Christmas in September?

No, don't panic, it's not Christmas just yet, but Christmas isn't far from the minds of many, as a special concert is scheduled to take place Nov. 17 in the Jackson Theatre at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC) with Krise Transportation as the sponsor for an evening with the Oak Ridge Boys as part of their Christmas Tour, said Tim Krise, owner of Krise Transportation, at a press conference Friday.

James ministers to Punxsy crowd

Performing artist Eddie James put on a show for those who came out to Barclay Square Friday evening. James’ website points out that he enjoys ministering through music to those who are hurting.

Barry Stephen Kern, 60

August 31, 2012

Barry Stephen Kern, 60, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born April 6, 1952, in Quincy, Mass., a son of Robert L. and Sara A. (Jackson) Kern. They survive and reside in Cordova, Tenn.

He met his wife-to-be, Karen Denise Lockard, when she was only 16 years old; they later married on March 31, 1973, and would have celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2013. She survives.

Mr. Kern worked at Beverage Air in Brookville for 36 years.

Anna Ruth Young, 88

Anna Ruth Young, 88, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at home.

She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Bellwood, a daughter of the late Ralph and Edith (Cole) Waltman.

She married Eugene Mercer, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1974.

She became the wife of Joe J. Young, who preceded her in death on June 5, 2002.

Anna enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo and crocheting, and she had previously enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Chucks set to take on Raiders in opener

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Rivalries are always the most anticipated contests of each year for sports teams. No matter what type of season a team is having, if the most heated foe can be defeated, all adversity that is faced can be forgotten.

The 2012 version of the Route 36 Trophy contest will not have to wait and be anticipated for weeks to come.

The Brookville Raiders will invade Jack F. LaMarca Stadium this evening starting at 7 p.m. to kick-off the 2012 campaign against the Punxsy Chucks on the gridiron.
