Exton bests Punxsy for 2nd time, earns state title

August 1, 2012

MEADVILLE —After a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Exton put Punxsy in the losers' bracket earlier this week, the Punxsy 10- and 11-year-old softball All-Stars knew they'd have their hands full in the championship game. Unfortunately for Punxsy, Exton's strong pitching held it to zero runs in a 5-0 shutout, ending Punxsy's run at a state title.

"This game was dominated by great pitching and strong defense by both teams," Punxsy head coach Steve White said after the game.

Grays' defense helps them even series with Sens

August 1, 2012

REYNOLDSVILLE — The Brookville Grays and Sykesville Senators finals match up has played out how many thought it would: A stellar defense (Brookville) versus a powerful offense (Sykesville).

"They're (Sykesville) a hard-hitting baseball club; unless you can keep them off their stride its going to be tough to keep them off the bases," said Brookville manager Bob McCullough.

Wednesday night, it would be Brookville's defense that prevailed, giving it a 5-3 win and tying the series at two apiece.

"The ability to repair is almost as important as the will to win," said McCullough.
