While for some, the summer season seems to have just started, the telltale sign of the PAHS students' summer nearing an end showed itself Monday when the fall sports teams opened their practice season. PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area School Board continued to mull over the notion of closing some elementary schools for the sake of staying within budget at its meeting on Monday.
Jenks Hill Elementary stayed in the hot seat, as much of the discussion centered around it. However, Parkview was also brought forward as a potential closure.
There was some talk of Mapleview as well. However, not as much data was available as of yet in order for the board to fully discuss the implications of such a closure.
Jenks Hill had already been discussed at a prior meeting of the board.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Following the opening of bids and an executive session, Punxsutawney Borough Council voted to approve the sale of a 1981 Mack fire engine to the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company at Monday's council meeting.
The borough received three bids for the truck on a re-bid, and Elk Run was the high bidder at $3,000, said Ben White, Punxsutawney Borough manager.
White said the other two bids were $2,975 and $2,250.95
Chenoga said that he thought the matter should be tabled and went into an executive session to discuss the options.
TROUTVILLE — You may not have heard of Lacy J. Syler yet, but if things keep going as they have been for the 13-year-old country singer, that just may change.
The up and coming country music star, who now lives in Nashville with her grandparents pursuing a career in music, recently put on a show for some of her biggest fans — her family at its latest family reunion in Troutville this past weekend.
"Lacy has had a microphone in her hand since she was two years old," said Connie McCarty, Syler's grand mother.
