PUNXSUTAWNEY — After downing Derry in the opening game of the Indiana County Youth League playoffs Sunday afternoon in Punxsutawney, I-Medical traveled to Derry for the second game of the best-of-three series. And in come-from-behind, dramatic fashion, Punxsy's squad clinched a berth to the finals against the Indiana Black Sox, who also won Tuesday, with a 9-7 victory Monday evening.
I-Medical jumped out to a great start in the contest, putting up a three-spot in the opening frame to put the pressure on Derry in its go-or-go-home game.
While Punxsutawney hosted its Machine Pitch Tournament last weekend, this group of Punxsy youngsters saw success at the recent Tim Weaver Memorial Tournament in Brookville the previous weekend. PUNXSUTAWNEY — As has been the case for the last several years, Music in the Park again resumes on the heels of the Groundhog Festival, starting Thursday in Barclay Square and running through Thursday, Aug. 23.
Kicking off the free series for 2012 is the band that kicked off the 2011 series, Midlife Crisis. For the rest of the schedule, see the accompanying box.
Music in the Park was first established a number of years ago by John Serian, who always believed that as long as Punxsy had its own natural setting in which to enjoy music, it would be a shame not to use it.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Monday, Punxsutawney Borough Council President Larry Chenoga said he has been working on a plan on how to better enforce borough codes that have to do with property maintenance.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Contract negotiations between groups representing the Punxsutawney Area School District and the Punxsutawney Area Education Association (PAEA) continue, although the two committees will not meet again with a state mediator until Tuesday, Aug. 7.
That’s simply because that date was the one that best suited representatives for both groups and the mediator, according to Gary Conrad, president of the Punxsutawney Area School Board.
“We’re back on track,” he said after Monday’s voting meeting.
Joseph Peter Pascuzzo, 90, Flint, Mich., died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 29, 1922, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Philip and Margaret (Marzonie) Pascuzzo.
June 21, 1947, he married Joan L. Rohner, who survives, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flint.
Mr. Pascuzzo retired from the Flint School Board in 1985, where he was also known as “Mr. Joe."
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and was a veteran of the AAA Fast Pitch Softball League of Flint for many years.
He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
