PUNXSUTAWNEY — In need of a win to push itself into contention for a spot in the Youth Legion state playoffs, Punxsy's I-Medical got just that with a convincing offensive barrage, putting up 13 runs over just five innings to earn a 13-2 victory over Warren after a long rain delay Tuesday evening in Punxsutawney.

The Eagle Riders of Punxsutawney raised $2,000 on its annual motorcycle ride that was held recently, along with $1,000 donated by the FOE Eagles No. 1231, for Special Olympics. Jim Burton, WJAC TV meteorologist, member of the Special Olympics board of directors and a member of the Eagles Riders in Johnstown, said he was grateful for the money that was raised, which is used year round and not just during the Special Olympics games.

Burton said it is more than just providing athletics and exercise for special needs people; it is also used for medical screenings.

July 31, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy's Junior Legion team — I-Medical — earned a split in Monday's action at the Western Regional tournament, which the Punxsy squad was hosting, putting itself in a position where it must win at least another game today to move into the top three and advance to states.

I-Medical started the day with a 12-8 win over West Hempfield. Despite a late run by West Hempfield, the host squad earned its berth in the winners' bracket final.

I-Medical started the game, after being named the visiting team, with a one-run first inning.

Despite solid 'D', Grays fall to Senators in Game 3

July 31, 2012

BROOKVILLE — Two key innings, the first and seventh, gave the Senators the edge they needed to claim a 5-1 Game 3 victory Monday at McKinley Field. Brookville played top-notch defense in innings two through six but could never generate any scoring momentum to match Sykesville’s effort.

“We played better than pretty good; (Brookville) dropped that one fly ball and that ball that slid past the first baseman; those two things broke our bats, and we never mended them after that,” said Bob McCullough, Brookville Grays manager.
