Every Pirates fan’s dream come true! Walker throws out first pitch at Buccos game

PITTSBURGH — Many Little Leaguers and other baseball players in western Pa. have had the dream to one day pitch in the Major Leagues at PNC Park.

Lesa Walker, owner of Walker's Auto Parts, didn't get to play a game at the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates; however, she was the winner of a contest that allowed her to throw out the first pitch of a game July 23 between the Pirates and Chicago Cubs as the winner of a promotion with Uni-Select — an auto parts warehouse with which she deals.

Punxsy All-Stars stay alive with win over Avon Grove

MEADVILLE — The Punxsy 10- and 11- year old softball All-Stars just won't quit, as they defeated Avon Grove, 10-8, in the losers bracket Tuesday. Punxsy faces a tough Exton team today at 1 p.m. that it must defeat twice to claim the State title.

Punxsy did all of its scoring in the third and fifth inning to defeat Avon Grove. It scored four runs in the third and six in the fifth.

Punxsy I-Med outscores Warren by 11 runs

PUNXSUTAWNEY — In need of a win to push itself into contention for a spot in the Youth Legion state playoffs, Punxsy's I-Medical got just that with a convincing offensive barrage, putting up 13 runs over just five innings to earn a 13-2 victory over Warren after a long rain delay Tuesday evening in Punxsutawney.

I-Medical was the visiting team, and it wasted no time putting Warren in a hole, scoring four runs on six hits and batting around its lineup.

RIDING FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The Eagle Riders of Punxsutawney raised $2,000 on its annual motorcycle ride that was held recently, along with $1,000 donated by the FOE Eagles No. 1231, for Special Olympics. Jim Burton, WJAC TV meteorologist, member of the Special Olympics board of directors and a member of the Eagles Riders in Johnstown, said he was grateful for the money that was raised, which is used year round and not just during the Special Olympics games.

Burton said it is more than just providing athletics and exercise for special needs people; it is also used for medical screenings.
