July 11, 2012

STATE COLLEGE — Punxsy starter Alli Ishman and reliever Kylee Lingenfelter combined to throw a one-hitter, and Punxsy downed Mifflin County 2-0 under the lights Wednesday evening to stay in the hunt to advance to the semi-finals of the Little League Softball State Championship Tournament.

Ishman pitched the first two innings before being lifted with the pitching rules stating that once she threw a pitch in the third inning, she would require a full day's rest.

In a hole: Punxsy drops series opener to Marion Center

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Some nights, the breaks just don't go a team's way, and Wednesday night seemed to be one of those nights for Punxsy's Senior Legion team, which fell at the hands of Marion Center, 7-1, in the opening game of the first round of its best-of-three playoff series.

Despite several solid, deep line drives, the Punxsy squad struggled to get a hit to fall in, managing just three hits off Marion Center starter Jared Selkirk, who pitched a complete game to earn the win.

The Zak Zone

July 11, 2012

Back in the summer of 1997, my brother and the rest of his 11- and 12-year-old All-Star team made the trip to Carbondale for the Little League State Championship Tournament. Tuesday, I made the trip to State College — and the metaphorical trip down memory road — as I was off to cover the 11- and 12-year-old Little League Softball State Championship Tournament.

It was my first trip back to a state tournament of the Little League variety, and as I arrived, memories of those trips out east to watch Marc and his teammates play came flooding back.
