Mock rescue helps pool staff remain prepared for an emergency

June 21, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Thursday, the injury was simulated, but the lifeguards at the George C. Brown Community Pool treated it as if it was real.

For the first time in about three years, staff at the pool staged a mock rescue in order to maintain the skills for when a real emergency occurs.

And with weather that has been seen this week, multiple swimmers at the pool make it all the more important to be prepared.

During the mock rescue, pool co-manager Adrienne Goss posed as a swimmer who dived into the middle-depth of the pool and suffered a neck injury.

Rossiter ends Grays' long win streak with 4-3 victory

June 21, 2012

ROSSITER — The No. 1 team in the Federation Baseball League — the Brookville Grays — fell to the Rossiter Miners in a hard-fought 4-3 game. The Miners improved their record to 7-3 with the victory.

Both squads had solid pitching performances, but Rossiter's was just a little bit better to give them the edge.

Sean Smith pitched all seven innings for the Miners. He threw two strike outs, allowed three runs on 11 hits and walked only two.

"The key to the game was Sean Smith," Rossiter manager Jim Dunlap said. "That's a gutsy kid; that's probably the gutsiest kid."
