Kerr third-best, Newsomes still alive at Class AA PIAAs

May 25, 2012

SHIPPENSBURG — Five individual performers for the Brookville track and field teams participated in Friday's events at the PIAA Class AA Track and Field State Championships in Shippensburg, with one walking away a medalist and two advancing beyond the preliminary rounds to today's action.

Ryan Kerr — a thrower for the boys' track and field team — earned a third-place finish in the finals, which were held Friday, with a throw of 194-8. While Kerr's seed throw of 207-2 would have been enough to eclipse the first-place mark, finishing third at the state meet is still quite an accomplishment.

“All in all, we did OK; we fared OK,” said Eric Bridges, executive director of the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission. “There are still some areas of concern, but at the end of the day, we’ll right-size the organization and do what we have to do, to maintain a high level of service.”

Rossiter starter Brodie Lowmaster pitched a pretty solid game, scattering 10 hits over his seven innings of work, but in the end, it was control problems that cost Lowmaster the victory.
