BROOKVILLE â Jefferson County residents who have old or unused electronics collecting dust in their attics will have an opportunity to dispose of them â properly.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority will hold an electronics collection for all county residents at two locations, Gruda Metals and Miller Welding.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Entering the home half of the seventh inning tied 3-3 with St. Marys Tuesday night in Punxsutawney, the Lady Chucks softball team knew the worst case scenario was extra innings if it didn't score. The Lady Chucks also know a team should never put the bats back in its opponent's hands, and Punxsy prevented that from happening in dramatic fashion with a walk-off single by leadoff hitter Chelsea Engeholm sending it to a 4-3 victory over the Lady Dutch.
JOHNSONBURG â Facing another long ride â this time to Johnsonburg â the Punxsy boys' tennis team had another concern entering Tuesday afternoon's match, as the Rams have had the Chucks' number over the past few seasons, Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley said.
But Punxsy overcame its slump in a big way, sweeping the Rams 9-0 to pick up its second consecutive sweep after a 9-0 victory over DuBois Central Catholic Saturday.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsy junior varsity softball team scored at least one run in each inning, and Nicole DiPietro pitched a five-inning, two-hit shutout as the Lady Chucks cruised to a 10-0, five-inning victory over the Lady Dutch of St. Marys Tuesday afternoon in Punxsutawney.
Perhaps the most impressive fact about the Lady Chucks' 10-run offensive output was the fact that they scored them while picking up just six hits.
INDIANA â Bernadette Peters performing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania this Friday is a special occasion in itself, but for this trip, Peters has some good news of her own.
Tuesday, it was announced that Peters â a star of stage, television, concert and recordings â has been chosen to receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award during the upcoming Tony Awards celebration in June.
But prior to that event, Peters will conclude the inaugural season of the Lively Artsâ âOvations!â series at 8 p.m. Friday at Fisher Auditorium of IUPâs Performing Arts Center.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â During Sundayâs Loyalty Day program at the War Memorial, VFW Post Adjutant Bob Lott recognized Keaton Mohney, a senior at Punxsutawney Area High School.
Mohney participated in Voice of Democracy, an audio-essay competition last year, and wrote an essay on the topic, âIs there pride in serving in our military?â
Mohney won at the VFW Post 9044 level and the District 19 level.
Her success at the district level led her to compete at the state level in Harrisburg, where she placed sixth.
OLIVEBURG â A Rossiter man riding a motorcycle around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday along Route 36 in Oliveburg, was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries after he crashed his bike.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Kyle T. Bryan, 22, Rossiter, was traveling north on Route 36 on his Kawasaki 250R and was completing a pass when a bungee cord that was holding a coat and cooler bag came loose, and the coat wrapped around the bikeâs tire .
Police said Bryanâs motorcycle skidded 105 feet before it overturned, which caused him to be
Susan M. Aljoe, 55, DuBois, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at home.
She was born March 9, 1957, in DuBois, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Dorothy M. (Long) Reitz.
June 14, 1975, she married Ronald M. Aljoe, who survives, of DuBois.
Mrs. Aljoe was a 1975 graduate of Jeff Tech in Reynoldsville. She was employed at Wal-Mart in DuBois.
She was a member of the Treasure Lake Church and the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, both located in DuBois.
If life is measured by ones ability to laugh and love, then that of Edwardine Caltagaroneâs, who passed away April 28, 2012, at age 71 at her home surrounded by the people who love her, surpasses any mountain top.
She was born July 23, 1940, in Big Soldier, a daughter of the late Steve and Mary (Kusnirak) Wascovich.
She was married to Francis Caltagarone, who survives, of Reynoldsville.
Mrs. Caltagarone was a graduate of Reynoldsville-Winslow High School, and she worked as a waitress for many years, as well as at Cameron Manufacturing, Kniseley Coal Company.
Robert Earl Schwab, 88, Falconer, N.Y., and Bradenton, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at his home in Falconer.
He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Frostburg, a son of the late James and Maud (Roush) Schwab.
Mr. Schwab was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Sept. 24, 1947, he married Betty L. Straitiff Schwab, who preceded him in death Oct. 1, 1984.
Dec. 28, 1985, in Jamestown, N.Y., he married Nora Mae Staley Zimmerman Schwab, who survives.
