ALTOONA — Several members of both the Chucks and Lady Chucks track and field teams earned their personal bests during Friday's 63rd-annual West Central Coaches Invitational in Altoona.

"Every event had many top performers, which made placing extremely difficult," boys' head coach John Smith said. "What we were looking for was each individual just doing their best."

For the Chucks, Brody Morgan had a personal best in the shot put, throwing 46-9.5 for third place overall. Morgan also placed seventh in the javelin, one of his strongest events, with a throw of 158-11.

Throughout the day leading up to Saturday's night cap, though, some of Punxsy's youngest Major League hopefuls took to the field to begin their Machine Pitch League season. One of many athletes playing in the eight-team league this year, Easton Gula dons his catcher's gear and makes a throw to first after fielding a ball hit in front of the plate.
