PUNXSUTAWNEY â Despite a pair of hits in the first three batters of the game, the Punxsy baseball team's offense took a tentative approach at the plate and managed only two more hits for the remainder of the game against State College starter Michael Finlan, as the Little Lions went on to a 5-0 victory Friday in Punxsutawney.
"We just weren't attacking enough," Punxsy head coach Mike Dickey said. "We weren't aggressive, and we couldn't put runs on the board. And it showed. We're not stepping up to the plate with confidence, and we need to start doing that."
STATE COLLEGE â After falling to a polished Bald Eagle squad Thursday afternoon in Punxsutawney, the Punxsy softball team knew it had to put that game in its past with another tough foe ahead in State College Friday. And the Lady Chucks did just that, and behind two four-run innings and solid pitching from starter Randa Depp, Punxsy cruised to an 8-1 victory.
Despite the fact the Lady Chucks lost Thursday, Punxsy head coach Alan Pifer had said he'd seen a lot of things he liked out of his team â including hitting the ball hard and pitching well. And Friday, it paid off.

WALSTON â The Young Township Board of Supervisors is agreeable about adding more fire hydrants in the township, but seeks an official request from the chief of the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
Wednesday, Gary Godak, assistant chief of the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company but addressing the board as a township resident, said the department would like to place hydrants in two locations: One about a half-mile from the New Anchor Inn, along Harmony Road/Route 310, and further down the road just before Adrian/DeLancey.
INDIANA â Indiana University of Pennsylvania honored late Punxsutawney businessman and former IUP trustee Ralph F. Roberts with the establishment of a special-use learning area named for him at IUPâs Punxsutawney campus.
May 10, the IUP Council of Trustees approved the establishment of the Ralph F. Roberts Heritage Learning Commons.
âThe Roberts family, and especially Ralph Roberts, have been longtime supporters of IUP,â David Osikowicz, IUP Council of Trustees chairman, said.

Barbara A. Mennetti, 68, Rossiter, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born July 6, 1943, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Nick and Mary (Miller) Monoskey.
Oct. 3, 1964, she married John Mennetti, who survives. They were married for 47 years.
Mrs. Mennetti was a woman of strong faith and attended the Rossiter United Methodist Church.
She was a very proud homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, being outdoors and camping. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Allen Leroy "Roy" Pearce, 82, Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Nanty Glo, a son of the late John Henry and Bertha (Wright) Pearce.
He was married to Betty Jane (Peace) Pearce, who preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1989.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Virginia Sandler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dottie Erckman and Flora Pearce; and a brother, Jack Pearce.
