BROOKVILLE â In a very close yet stunning race, a Brookville area challenger collected more votes in Jefferson County for the 66th District seat in the state House of Representatives than did the incumbent who has held the post since 1986.
Unofficial results from Tuesday night show that Cris Dush collected 2,402 votes (47 percent) over Sam Smithâs 2,295 votes (45 percent). A second challenger for Smith, Dr. James M. Brown, collected 428 votes (eight percent).
PUNXSUTAWNEY â This week, the Jefferson County District Attorneyâs office and Jefferson County Victim Services saluted Punxsutawney Borough Police for its hard work and effort in working with the Victimsâ Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP).
âThere are 1,200 borough police departments in Pennsylvania, and the Punxsutawney Borough Police was one of the 256 departments that consistently returned its reports back in 15 days or less,â said Michelle Fusco, county victim services coordinator.
PUNXSUTAWNEY âÂ Monday, Punxsutawney Area Hospital received a generous donation in the form of 12 brand-new television sets, six of which will be placed in the hospitalâs short procedure unit.
Five of the TVs will go in the intensive care unit, and a 37-inch big-screen TV will be placed in the front lobby.
The televisions were donated by the John Jacob Fisher American Legion Post 62.
The idea for the televisions came from Cathy Bair, who was in short procedure for the second time when she thought that it would be nice if there had been some TVs in the room.
Punxsy's Hannah Rummel competes in the field portion of the Lady Chucks' performance at the All-League Meet Tuesday afternoon in DuBois. Rummel competed in the long jump, the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles for Punxsy.
Donald P. Ryman, 81, Streetsboro, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Aurora Manor in Aurora, Ohio, and has rejoined his beloved wife, Patricia, in heaven for eternity.Â
He was born May 17, 1930, in Buffalo, N.Y., and was adopted by the late Mahlon and Katherine (Floetke) Ryman of Big Run.
March 8, 1952, in Winchester, Va., Mr. Ryman married his sweetheart, Patricia Strachan, and they resided in Big Run for a brief time. She preceded him in death in 1988.
Glenn E. âBuzzâ Powell, 82, Brookville, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at the McKinley Health Center, Brookville.
He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Ringgold, a son of the late William G. and Arveta M. (Snyder) Powell.
March 9, 1952, he married Charlotte M. (Smith), who preceded him in death Feb. 22, 2001.
Mr. Powell served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was the owner and operator of Powellâs Garage & Rebuilds in Roseville and enjoyed sprint car racing.
Charlotte S. Himes, 94, Coolspring, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.
She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Worthville, a daughter of the late Quay and Eliza (Straitiff) Doverspike.
Ms. Himes was a school teacher for 43 years at Punxsutawney Middle School, where she taught reading and English.
She was a member of the Coolspring United Methodist Church.
Ms. Himes loved and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Connie and Leslie, her boys, Tanner and Brodi, and her beloved cats.
