PUNXSUTAWNEY — In a game that saw a number of zeroes on the scoreboard — 12 to be exact — it was a pair of big half innings that told the offensive story in Punxsy's varsity softball game against State College Friday in Punxsutawney.
Unfortunately for the Lady Chucks, their big inning came up just short of matching State College's, and they fell 4-3 to the Little Lions.
One of the things that stood out about State College's big inning — the third, during which it scored four runs — was that while the Little Lions had three hits, Punxsy also helped them with a pair of fielding errors.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — While the varsity squad dropped a heart-breaking game to the Little Lions of State College Friday, the JV team continued to roll with an 8-1 victory over the same foe.
Punxsy pitchers Sarah London and Lauren Wolfe tag teamed the pitching effort, with London pitching the first four and Wolfe closing out the game.
London allowed just one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out three, and Wolfe allowed one hit in her three shutout innings. She struck out one and walked one.
Dorothy J. (Randall) Clinch, 90, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Meadow Lakes Healthcare Center in East Windsor, N.J.
 She was born in Winslow, and after graduating from Punxsutawney High School in 1940, she graduated from DuBois Business College. She also graduated from the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York, where she worked as a fashion model.
Ruth M. London, 90, Punxsutawney, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Feb. 21, 1922, a daughter of the late Thomas and Barbara (Lester) Cowan.
July 23, 1955, she married Robert H. London, who preceded her in death May 10, 1999.
Mrs. London was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney and served as the organist at the Anita Presbyterian church.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, cooking and feeding her family.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — With the completion of the paving on Mahoning Street this week, the end of PennDOT’s $1.1 million downtown traffic signal upgrade is in sight.
Workers from Power Contracting, the contractor on the signal project, continued installing the new overhead signage Friday.
The new traffic signals will be activated Wednesday and Thursday, two intersections per day, according to PennDOT Project Manager Kirby Starr, who also said the former traffic light system will be removed once the new lights are activated.
BROOKVILLE — Friday, 21 students from seven school districts in Jefferson and Clarion counties took part in the 2012 Clar-Jeff Safe Driving Competition at the Heritage House in Brookville.
The students were tested on perceptual driving, behind-the-wheel skills, Pennsylvania driving laws and vehicle defects.
