Worth the ride: Chucks tennis downs Bradford

April 18, 2012

BRADFORD — Despite having to shake off the after-effects of a long ride to Bradford, the Chucks tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 victory over the Bradford Owls Tuesday afternoon.

"It was a nice little win, a nice trip to Bradford," Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley said after the match. "The big thing today was just the ride. You're in the van for so long, and you have about 20 minutes when you get there to get ready. We looked a little sluggish to start, but once we got warmed up and started making a few shots, I really thought we played OK."

DUBOIS — The Punxsy Chucks traveled to DuBois Tuesday afternoon for a pair of dual meets against D-IX foe DuBois and non-league opponent Northern Cambria, and while the Chucks earned a split, it was the Beavers who bested them, 88-62.

"There were just a few events where they really hurt us today," Punxsy head coach John Smith said, referring to the Beavers. "They were very strong in the sprints and hurdles, as well as in the long jump."

Punxsy's win came over Northern Cambria, where the Chucks won convincingly, 110-40.

DUBOIS — Much like the boys' track team, the Punxsy girls' squad traveled to DuBois Tuesday evening to pick up a split in a pair of dual meets between the DuBois Lady Beavers and Northern Cambria.

While the Lady Chucks came up short on the score sheet against the Lady Beavers, 111-39, Punxsy head coach Barry Young said his team likes to focus on the positive, which came in the form of a 97.5-52.5 victory over Northern Cambria.
