PUNXSUTAWNEY â Fred Gadomski, the ninth inductee into the National Meteorologist Hall of Fame at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center, said Thursday that he was being honored for a career he simply considers to be fun.
Also, he said, âYou canât imagine what a treat it is to be in a place where weather is king.â
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Over the past week, Punxsy's seventh-grade boys' basketball team earned a split in a pair of tough games against DuBois and Ridgway.
Last Friday, the Chucks picked up a come-from-behind 23-22 victory over the Beavers by outscoring DuBois 12-6 in the final quarter.
While Punxsutawney was hosting the sixth-grade basketball tournament Jan. 21-22, a team of third-grade girls' basketball players traveled to compete in the Penns Manor basketball tournament and saw great success, finishing with a 3-1 record. The girls worked hard to reach their 3-1 record, Ben White, who submitted the above photo, said. Judy Kay Bowser, 58, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born July 20, 1953, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Charles and Emily (Strawcutter) Lingenfelter.
She was married to Richard W. Bowser, who survives.
Mrs. Bowser was a nurse's aide.
Joseph M. Carney Jr., 49, Norfolk, Va., died Jan. 26, 2012, in Virginia Beach, Va.
He was born in DuBois.
Mr. Carney was a concrete supervisor for J.M. Briggs Concrete Company.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
Timothy M. Kellert, 48, Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
He was born Nov. 22, 1963, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Warren A. and Mary E. (Gigliotti) Kellert.
Mr. Kellert was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church, as well as the Punxsutawney Moose 954 and the Walston Club.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to quickly stop by Punxsutawney Area High School to snap some pictures at a pair of youth wrestling tournaments: The Groundhog Classic Saturday and the Novice Tournament Sunday.
Thinking back on the events, two things stood out to me.
First, I discovered that you can pack a lot of people into the gymnasium at PAHS.
Much to the events' credit, a total of nearly 600 wrestlers ages six-to-15 turned out for the annual tournaments, and the parking lot wasn't the only area that was nearly full.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â When presented with the 2011 Woman of the Year Award, Katie Laska said she felt very undeserving.
But with her long list of contributions to Punxsy, the place she calls her home, the community would be hard-pressed to find anyone more deserving than she.
Wednesday night at the annual Groundhog Banquet, the 2010 Woman of the Year, Charlotte S. Fye, read over Laskaâs many accomplishments and the qualities for which she is known.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Despite being born in the Philadelphia area, Gov. Tom Corbett insists he is a western Pennsylvania man by heart who has observed Groundhog Day since he was a child.
âWhen I was young, we had only three TV stations, and one of them we couldnât get â not in North Hills,â said Corbett, the second sitting Pennsylvania governor to attend Groundhog Day. âWe always hoped for more winter and snow so we could play outside.â
