In Monday's edition of Spirit Sports, the two Punxsy wrestlers who won the District-IX title in their respective weight classes Saturday at Clarion University â Seth Spack at 152 pounds and Perry Arrington at 138 pounds â were highlighted, but a record number of Chucks' wrestlers advanced to the regional tournament this weekend in Altoona.
Two drivers were sent to the hospital following a three-vehicle accident around 7:20 p.m. Monday at the intersection of North Findley and East Mahoning streets. According to Punxsutawney Borough Police, a vehicle traveling west on East Mahoning Street drove through a red light and struck a Chevrolet Blazer on the driverâs rear left side, which was in the intersection, causing the Blazer to roll over.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a fire broke out in the second floor of the dealershipâs showroom, which is located on East Main Street in Brookville.
According to Brookville Volunteer Fire Company (BVFC) Chief Jim Lipuma, the fire originated from the furnace.
PUNXSUTAWNEYâ Even though Punxsy hasnât seen a lot of snow this winter, there were many children seen as âWhiter Than Snowâ during a recent photo exhibition/fund-raiser for the Punxsutawney Christian School at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library recently.
The exhibition is called âWhiter Than Snow: A Prayer in Pictures,â said Karissa Spencer, childrenâs ministries director for the First Church of God in Punxsy.
Spencer said as part of the childrenâs ministries, the Sunday School staff taught youngsters the salvation message and what it means to be âWhiter Than Snowâ in a spiritual sense.
Ronald Newcome, Jr., 70, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Dubois Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 11, 1941 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Ronald W. Newcome, Sr. and Mabel (Dinger) Newcome.
Sept. 8, 1962, he married Donna Belle Smith, who survives.
He was the Pastor of the Maple Grove Church of God.
He loved his family, his church family, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He spent a lot of his time at the church.
He was a loving caretaker to his wife and a loving father to his children.
He was an equipment operator for the P&N Coal Company.
GASKILL TOWNSHIP â Just for proof that winter is not over, there were numerous accidents over the weekend, many dealing with snow-covered and icy road conditions.
A Punxsutawney man had to be extricated from his vehicle following a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 3:35 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Cloe Lake Road and Lipp Road, Gaskill Township.
Seth Spack (top) attempts to pin Clearfleld's Mike Beck in the District-IX Class AAA semi-finals Saturday in Clarion. Spack then moved on to the finals to face Mike Kennelly, of DuBois, and with a 12-3 major decision, Spack earned the 152-pound title.

Coming to Punxsutawney
Mention has been made in these columns of the effort being made to induce Prof. W. Irving Colby, the noted teacher and author, to give a five weeks' course in German here. The number of names required to insure his coming have been secured, and the following letter from Prof. Colby explains itself:
CLARION â Saturday, the Punxsy wrestling team took 11 grapplers to the District IX Individual Wrestling Championships at Clarion University, and with 10 of the 11 advancing to the regional tournament this coming weekend in Altoona, the Chucks set a school record for individuals advancing beyond Districts.
Of the 10 advancing, the highlights of the tournament for the Chucks came in a pair of District IX champions being crowned in senior Seth Spack, at 152 pounds, and freshman Perry Arrington, at 138 pounds.
BRADFORD â A young Punxsy squad did everything it could this season, making improvements and changes on its way to the District IX Class AAA semi-finals.
But Friday, the Lady Chucks (9-14) met a match they could not handle in the undefeated Bradford (23-0), and the Lady Owls advanced to the championship 54-26.
"Their overall strength (was the difference)," Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said. "Bradford is very athletic and very strong."
From the opening quarter, during which Punxsy was outscored 13-8, the young team struggled to keep the game competitive.
