Helen Bobette (Sutter) Lechner, 90, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in Anchorage.
 Arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Punxsutawney.
Mary Jane Miller, 68, Brookville, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born Dec. 11, 1943, in Tonawanda, N.Y., a daughter of the late Marcel Russell and Hilda Madelyn (Lewis) Wazelle.
May 25, 1974, she married the love of her life, Wayne Arthur Miller, who preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2009.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Nazerene Church in Anita.
She and her husband lived most of their lives in Wyoming, where they enjoyed riding horses, backpacking, square dancing, bowling and Black Powder Rendezvous.
Jeffrey (Petey) S. Peterman Sr., 39, Punxsutawney,died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 30, 1972, in Indiana, a son of Margaret Diane (Peterman) Anderson, who survives, of Punxsutawney.
Mr. Peterman was a roofer.
He was a member of the Punxsutawney FOE, the American Legion and the Walston Club.
Miriam Poole, 87, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Samuel Z. and Nora May (Hersh) Shaub.
She married Warren D. Slaybaugh, who preceded her in death in 1991.
She then married Bruce Poole, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Mrs. Poole was a registered nurse.
She was a member of the Punxsutawney Chapter No. 72, Order of the Eastern Star.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Lady Chucks basketball team knew it had its hands full when the Lady Tigers of Hollidaysburg â defending District VI champion and perennial powerhouse â rolled into town on snow-covered roads Friday night.
Punxsy (3-9, 0-2) wasn't able to break the Lady Tigers' press, and Hollidaysburg scored eight points in the first minute and opened with a 13-0 run on its way to a 78-32 win.
RIDGWAY â After a tough loss to Brookville put the Punxsy junior high wresting team below the .500 mark for the season at 2-3, Punxsy rebounded with a victory Thursday night in Ridgway to return to .500.
As has been the case for Punxsy in more matches than not this season, it dominated the bouts that took place on the mat. But in an interesting move, Punxsy head coach Bill Burke said Ridgway opted to exchange several forfeits as opposed to allowing its wrestlers to take to the mat during regulation.
BROOKVILLE â Look out Thin Mints, a new cookie is vying for the spotlight.
In celebration of their organizationâs 100th anniversary, Girl Scouts across America are going door-to-door today, and every day for the next couple of weeks, trying to sell a new cookie: Savannah Smiles.
The new lemon-wedge cookie, described as âcool and crisp, with just the right amount of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of flavor,â was introduced to pay homage to the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â From now until the snow melts, the Punxsutawney Memorial Library ... or the dogs are going to the library.
Beginning this past Thursday, the library kicked off its âTail Wagginâ Tutorsâ program for children ages six through nine.
During the program, the youngsters not only get to take part in reading and crafts, but also work with Sadie and Sara, the stars of âTail Wagginâ Tutors.â
DUBOIS â Reynoldsville resident Douglas Giles recently received a brand-new 2012 Ford Mustang GT for an extremely discounted rate â $5.
It was a normal day for Giles when he went into Backstreet Beer Distributor, in Reynoldsville, and bought a $5 Mustang instant lottery ticket.
He scratched off the ticket and felt the feeling that anyone who has ever bought a ticket hopes for: The excitement of winning a grand prize.
Giles had the choice between $60,000 and a brand new 2012 Mustang GT. The choice was easy for Giles.
âIâve always wanted a Mustang,â he said.
