Jeff Tech held its reorganization meeting Thursday with Lloyd McCreight elected chairperson and Shelly Caine vice chairperson.
BIG RUN â€” VFW Post 9044 of Big Run and the Ladiesâ€™ Auxiliary held a ceremony commemorating Pearl Harbor Day â€” an annual recognition of the Dec. 7 attack by the Japanese that led to American involvement in World War II â€” on Friday, the 71st anniversary of the event, at the Big Run War Memorial.
The main speaker for the evening was VFW Post Chaplain Gene McKee, who is a veteran of World War II and also delivered the invocation and benediction for the event.
REYNOLDSVILLE â€” The Reynoldsville Area Business Association bestowed its Citizen of the Year award upon local resident Jackie Stitt at the organizationâ€™s Eighth Annual Holiday Gala at the Bellamauro Social Hall this past Sunday.
It also distributed two college scholarships and recognized a retiring community businessperson before the afternoon was over.
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Volunteer Field Genealogists, along with junior member Santana â€śTanaâ€ť Olp, presented a workshop on Dec. 1 in Titusville, Pa.
Instruction was given on the proper preparation of applications, accepted proof documents and suggested resources and methods of proving a Revolutionary War patriot.
A PowerPoint presentation gave participants an overview of how to use the public DAR website to find a Revolutionary War Patriot.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€”Â It just wouldnâ€™t feel like the Christmas season in Punxsutawney without the magic of Make-A-Wish in the air.
Make-A-Wish invites the members of the local community to help give the gift of a wish-come-true to a local child with a life-threatening medical condition this week, as it kicks off its Annual Light Up A Childâ€™s Life holiday campaign.
Monday through Friday, Make-A-Wish will be doing live radio broadcasts from remote locations around the area.

Dorothy Mae Nicholson, 75, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Nicholson was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Eugene and Faye (Young ) Jordan.
On March 27, 1956, she married her husband, Harold M. Nicholson, who survives, of Punxsutawney.
Mrs. Nicholson attended the First Church of God.
She enjoyed collecting angels, vacationing in Myrtle Beach for the winter, going to church camp and spending time with her grandchildren.
MARION CENTER â€” The switching of the scholastic sports season will be complete tonight. Both Punxsy girls' and boys' varsity basketball teams don game uniforms and lace up the high tops to start the winter sports madness at the Marion Center Tip-off Tournament.
The two Chucks squads will be part again this year of the two-day, 16-team tournament down Route 119.
Tonight's four-game docket features four varsity contests and determines Saturday's eight-game slate. Starting at 4:30 p.m., A-C Valley faces West Shamokin in boys action before the local action begins.
