PASR names Jeanne Curtis its Volunteer of the Year

PUNXSUTAWNEY — In recognition of the more than 2,000 hours she has devoted to a variety of organizations and projects in the past twelve months, Jeanne Curtis of Punxsutawney has been chosen as the Volunteer of the Year by the Community Service Committee of the Jefferson County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR).

H. Paul Hoover, 82

H. Paul Hoover, 82, Valier, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born on Jan.1, 1930, in Loop, Pa., a son of the late Russell and Vera (Fireman) Hoover.

He was the last remaining member of his family.

On July 28, 1956, he married Mary Emma (Braunns) Hoover, who survives.

He was a member of the Valier United Methodist Church and attended the Men’s Breakfasts.

He served in the United States

Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He worked for PennDOT for 28 years as an equipment operator and retired from there in 1990.

Todd M. Covert, 33, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at home.
He was born Nov. 5, 1979, a son of Jerry and Mary (Shiock) Covert.

He was a member of the St. Adrian Roman Catholic Church.

He was a graduate from the Punxsutawney Area High School Class of 1997 and attended Slippery Rock University.

He enjoyed hunting, hiking, music, going to camp, spending time with his nieces and nephew, and most of all, his family.
