Ronald Leroy Zimmerman, 50, of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center in Pittsburgh.
He was born Dec. 22, 1961, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late William Riley and Martha Kramer Zimmerman.
He was a school bus driver for the Krise Bus Co. of Punxsutawney.
He is survived by three nieces, Marie Reesman, Tina McCracken and April Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At the family's request there will be no visitation, and services are private at the convenience of the family
Jerry Wymer Sr., 76, of Big Run, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mr. Wymer was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Killbuck, New York, a son of the late Raymond Sr. and Ardetia (Crandell) Wymer.
He was a member of the St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Big Run.
Mr. Wymer served in the United States Army.
On Feb. 9, 1963, he married the former Marion Lee Reiter. She survives.
Jerry worked as manager at Western Union Telegraph, on the B&O Railroad as a carpenter, and retired as a janitor for the Punxsutawney Area School District.
Clarence Franklin â€śBuckâ€ť Raybuck, 87, formerly of Summerville, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at McKinley Health Center.
He was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Heathville, a son of the late Franklin Harold and Ella Miranda (Hetrick) Raybuck.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving his country during World War II. During his service, he earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
On June 30, 1946, he married the former Sara Jane Hannold. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2009.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” In a low-scoring gridiron battle on a chilly Tuesday night, the Jammin' Juniors ran 'Reitz' past the Super Seniors, 8-6, in the annual Powder Puff flag-football game held at Jack F. LaMarca Stadium.
Juniors twins Emily and Ashley Reitz combined for their team's touchdown and two-point conversion runs with 10:47 left in the game for a rare Junior Class win.
The Juniors defense stopped Super Senior Chelsea Engeholm three yards short on the game-tying two-point conversion run attempt to keep it 8-6 with 1:42 left in the game.
At halftime of Tuesday nightâ€™s Powder Puff football game, which was held to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish program, the annual Kingâ€™s Court ceremony was held. This yearâ€™s court consisted of seniors Austin Sabatucci with escort Audrianna DeLacour; Devan Snyder with escort Mary Sloniger; Alex Anderson with escort Ashley Bacha; Trevor Peace with escort Sydney Dubensky; Jamie Bush with escort Lauren Ball; and Ty Zimmerman with escort Chelsea Engeholm.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Richard Galluzzi, the Punxsutawney Area School District director of federal programs and curriculum, presented the 2012 PSSA District Report Card to the school board at its meeting this week, which was moved to Tuesday in observance of Veterans' Day.
Throughout the district as a whole, the students performed as follows:
â€˘ In Mathematics, which was on the test for grades three through eight and 11, 80.4 percent of students were deemed proficient or advanced, as opposed to 75.7 percent at the state level.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Punxsutawney Borough Council approved the preliminary 2013 borough tax budget with no tax increase at Tuesday nightâ€™s meeting.
The motion to put the budget on display for 30 days was approved.
The council approved the following mileage rates with each mill being the equivalent of $0.10 on each $100 of assessed valuation, all under the authority of the Local Tax Enabling Act:
â€˘ 10.0 mills for The Borough General Purpose Fund.
â€˘ 0.90 mills for the Fire Department Fund, which includes equipment
SNYDER TOWNSHIP â€”Â DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police are seeking information on a 34-year-old man who left the Just for Jesus Ministry, located along Route 28, between Oct. 13 and Nov. 7 for an appointment and failed to return.
Timothy Weidinger also failed to notify state police of his current address, as required by law. Criminal charges have been filed through District Court.
Police describe Weidinger as 5'08", 235 pounds, with brown eyes and balding brown hair.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police at 371-4652.
Anna M. Serge, 87, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Serge was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Valier, a daughter of the late Nicholas Schepis and Mary (Sano) Schepis.
Nov. 11, 1947, she married the love of her life, Joseph M. Serge, who preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2012.
Mrs. Serge was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church.
She worked many years as a legal secretary for Attorneys Ferraro and Young before retiring.
