Police: Former Just for Jesus resident located in Ohio

SNYDER TOWNSHIP — A former Just for Jesus resident who left the ministry without notifying police of his current address has been located, according to DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police.

Timothy Weidinger, 34, was apprehended in Toldeo, Ohio, on Thursday, police said.

Sometime between Oct. 12 and Nov. 7, Weidinger left Just for Jesus, which is located along Route 28, for an appointment and failed to return.

Weidinger is required by law to notify police of his current address, police reported.

Criminal charges were filed though District Court.

Tomorrow at Mariposa Park a business men's picnic will be held. John Wannamaker, the great Philadelphia merchant and Ex-Postmaster General of the United States will be present and deliver an address. Large delegations from Clearfield, Curwensville, DuBois, Punxsutawney and elsewhere are expected to attend.

Ethel Claire Dinger, 82

Claire Dinger, 82, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at home.

She was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Coolspring, a daughter of the late Mervin and Ethel (Doverspike) Straitiff.

On Oct. 14, 1948, she married Carl Ervin Dinger, who preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1994.

Mrs. Dinger was an active member of the Frostburg Methodist Church.

She was also a member of the Punxsutawney Garden Club and a Quilting Club.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and several card clubs.

Punxsy resident seeks stardom in the professional wrestling ring

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Most people like to sit around in their most comfortable chair or at a table with friends in their spare time, but one Punxsy resident, Matt Bish, likes to slam his friends through them.

An avid professional wrestling fan his entire life, Matt Bish got involved in independent wrestling leagues back in 2002 when his mother, Wendy Bish, introduced him to a colleague, Christine Mancini, who wrestled for the Allied Powers Wrestling Federation (APWF), a now defunct wrestling league. Mancini introduced Bish to Ken "Bad Bubba" Brewer Jr., who was the APWF promoter at the time.

Big News: Little River Band to perform in Punxsy on Groundhog Day

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, the Australian group "Little River Band" will be performing on the stage of the Punxsutawney Area Community Center, located at 220 North Jefferson St.

This concert is part of the band's scheduled 2012 tour and will include several of its most popular recordings, including "It's a Long Way There," "Help Is on the Way," "Happy Anniversary," Reminiscing," "Lady," "Lonesome Loser," "Cool Change," "The Night Owls" and "Take It Easy on Me."

During its career, the band has sold more than 25 million records and has scored 13 American Top 40 hits.

FEMCO to host party next Saturday benefiting Toys for Tots

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Femco is hosting a 'Gingerbread Open House Party' on Saturday, Nov. 24, from noon to 2 p.m.

This will be a joint effort between Femco, Community Action and Kiwanis.

Femco is encouraging people to drop off new and unwrapped toys for Toys
for Tots while they're out and about getting ready for the other holiday festivities that day (parade, etc.).

One age group which is often overlooked in Toys for Tots donations are babies.

There will be free food and refreshments provided.

Girl Friends holds grand opening

November 17, 2012

Friday marked the grand opening of Punxsutawney's newest store, Girl Friends.

The store is operated by friends Joyce Gunderson and Jennifer Frederick.

Both are wholesale reps who have been in the clothing business their whole lives. Their pink/white/black-themed store is filled with designer clothes, purses and jewelry.

"I was wandering through this town one day and just fell in love with it," said Gunderson.

The friends celebrated their grand opening with other friends and customers.

SS.C.D. Christmas Bazaar is upon us!

The annual SS.C.D. Christmas Bazaar will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the auditorium. There will be over 85 vendor tables. Both breakfast and lunch will be served for anyone looking for a yummy meal. The event is a fundraiser, with all proceeds from the meals and rented spaces going to the school. ‘Tunes for Tots’ to rock the Eagles

PUNXSUTAWNEY — What started out as a dream for Bruce Walker of Punxsutawney last year, has now become reality for him, with the help of many great people.

Walker's goal was to help local children at Christmas time. His statement — "No child should wake up without presents on Christmas" — was taken to heart by some friends who helped him host the first annual Tunes for Tots & Auction on Dec. 3, 2011, at Walston Club in Punxsutawney.

Lady Chucks celebrate soccer's season strides

PUNXSUTAWNEY — District and state championships teams are developed and built over years of work. The Punxsy girls' soccer team took big strides in the development toward this championship level this fall.

The Lady Chucks celebrated their hard work and honored the team's senior athletes and Most Valuable Player in their Thursday night season banquet held at the Chestnut Grove Independent Church.
