ST. MARYS — Every team dreams and sets goals for its seasons. The Lady Chucks volleyball team was able to fulfill its dream of District IX gold in dramatic fashion Thursday night at St. Marys High School.
Trailing by a game, Punxsy came together to take game four and outlasted Bradford, 18-16, in the match-deciding set to capture the program's seventh title in eight years.
"Everyone on this team contributed to this win tonight. It feels like a dream to bring the District Championship plaque back to Punxsutawney," exclaimed the winning head coach Heather Good.
The Punxsy defense led by Caesar Maruca (left, 20), Zak Bevak (middle), Brandon Wingert (right, 64) and company stuff a Moniteau runner last Friday. The Chucks travel to face the Panthers of Northern Bedford tonight at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale.

Senior Alexa Shaffer presented Mary Jean Johnston of the Weather Discovery Center with a check for $ 989.21. She was approached by her mentor, Sue Walher, who came up with the idea of selling food at the Music in the Park event. The event runs every summer from July 12th through Aug. 23rd. As part of her project, she set up a refreshments table where everyone could purchase slices of Laska's pizza, soda and water. The project was a success, with $989.21 being raised and donated to the Weather Discovery Center.
