Anti-bullying event runs, walks, rolls through town Saturday

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The stereotype of a bully is someone who takes your lunch money from you everyday and punches you in the arm, but that image actually makes up just a small part of bullying, as every day, more than 160,000 children nationwide stay home from school to avoid being bullied.

Not only are the effects of bullying on a child felt immediately, but they can also be lifelong, or even tragic, said Kim Rhodes, executive director of the Mentor Parent Program.

Signal replacement on hold until parts arrive

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The mast arm for the traffic signal at the intersection of West Mahoning Street and South Gilpin Street, which was severely damaged in a traffic accident recently, may not be replaced until spring.

St. Joseph’s Polish Society donates funds from 2nd annual golf tourney

On Aug. 25, St. Joseph’s Polish Society held its second annual golf tournament at Hemlock View Golf Course. Eleven teams consisting of four players each for a total of 44 players participated. All participants were invited back to the Polish club for dinner after a great day of golfing. Prizes were awarded to all participants. Several local businesses from Punxsutawney and surrounding communities donated prizes or contributed to the overall total that was collected to donate to the American Lung Association, the organization chosen this year by the board of directors of the Polish Club.
