PUNXSUTAWNEY â On normal rest, some foes are a tall task, but on the second of back-to-back days makes them all the tougher.
This was the case for the second time this season for the Punxsy boys' soccer team when facing rival DuBois. After shutting out Karns City last night, Punxsy did not have enough left to face DuBois 20 hours later in a 4-1 home loss on Thursday afternoon in Punxsutawney.
"It was a good hard game. We needed it and to have good competition at the end of the season," said Chucks coach Phil Shenkle.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Cincinnati Reds may have been eliminated from the Major League Baseball playoffs, but their memory will live on during Saturday's Punxsutawney Salvation Army Harvest Auction, as an autographed Devin Mesoraco Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball jersey, baseball and bat will be up for grabs.
"Our auction continues to grow every year in merchandise and the money collected from it," said Capt. Keith Jache, co-commander of the Punxsutawney Salvation Army.
Jache said the 2011 auction raised about $10,000, and this year, they've set a goal of $12,000.
A number of injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in Punxsy between a Ford school van, operated by Ida Mae Uplinger of Brookville, and a Pontiac Grand Am, operated by Lakin Frampton of Punxsuatwney.
A total of seven juveniles and both drivers were transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of injuries.
