PUNXSUTAWNEY â Despite leading by just four points at halftime, the Punxsy boys' basketball team scored 10 unanswered points to start the third quarter, and Daniel Triponey scored 19 points to lead the Chucks to a 41-29 victory over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders Tuesday night in Punxsutawney.
BROOKVILLE â The Punxsy Chucks went into Tuesday night's matchup against Brookville knowing it would be a competitive one, and the Raiders handed them one with a dominating 65-6 victory.
"We were looking at the possibility of getting shut out," Punxsy head coach Eric Eddy said. "We were looking at that coming in. That was a possibility because we know how tough they are."
BROOKVILLE âJury selection for the double murder trial of Steven P. Rebert continued at the Jefferson County Courthouse Tuesday morning.
That morning, a few of the potential jurors interviewed by the prosecution and the defense had been called back from the night before, when proceedings in the selection wrapped up around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The day before, the first pool of jurors was asked if any one of them felt as if they could not take part on the jury. According to WJAC-TV, about 20 people stepped forward.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Several Punxsutawney business and property owners shared their concerns regarding PennDOTâs downtown traffic signal project at Mondayâs Punxsutawney Borough council meeting.
Joe Ferrara, who, with his wife Joan VanDyke, owns the building at 101 East Mahoning St. that houses the studios of VanDyke & Company, expressed concern about what he believes to be a dangerous situation for property owners and pedestrians alike regarding the new traffic control devices that are being constructed on the sidewalks throughout the downtown area.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Teachers and guidance counselors in local schools are at an important starting point in ending the cycle of child abuse, according to Pat Berger, the executive director and forensic interviewer for the Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center (CAC).
âThey can be the first people a child decides to disclose the abuse to,â she said. âHow they get the information can affect the case.â
