Twila M. Enterline, 95

September 5, 2011

Twila M. Enterline, 95, Punxsutawney, formerly of Mahoning Towers, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born April 16, 1916, in Grange, a daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Doverspike) Smith.

She was married to Kenneth W. Hinderliter and then Samuel P. Enterline, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Enterline was a housekeeper at Blose-McGregor Health Care in Punxsutawney.

She was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney.

Robyn L. Voss, 54

September 5, 2011

Robyn L. Voss, 54, Mahaffey, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 20, 1956, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Charles R. "Dick" Fetterman and Margaret "Peggy" (Hunter) Fetterman, who survives, of Mahaffey.

She married Robert Voss, who survives, of Mahaffey.

Mrs. Voss was employed by Ames for 17 years, and she was also employed at Mahoning Outdoor Furnace.

She played softball for the Burnside Women's League.

Fire damages Rossiter garage

ROSSITER — The cause of a garage fire that broke out in Rossiter early Saturday morning has yet to be determined.

The fire broke out in Emery Monoskey's garage around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Center Street in Rossiter.

No one was injured.

However, heat from the garage fire caused minor damage to Monoskey's home, Joe Pisano Sr., fire chief of Rossiter's Volunteer Fire Company said.

Firefighters from Rossiter were the first to respond. Central Fire Department, Perry Township, Marion Center and Big Run also responded to the fire.

PAHS grad makes music with the Ravens

BALTIMORE — It may be unfathomable to fans in western Pennsylvania, but according to local native Todd Clontz, it is possible: Transitioning from a Pitts-burgh Steelers fan to — get this — a Baltimore Ravens fan.
“I grew up in the 1970s and watched Terry Bradshaw and the boys,” he said Friday. “I remember the Super Bowls back then — definitely the third and fourth ones.

Chucks lose tough opener against rival DuBois, 42-7

DUBOIS — After scoring two touchdowns and leading 14-7 at halftime, DuBois' varsity football team scored 28 points in the first eight minutes of the second half to defeat Punxsy, 42-7, Friday night in DuBois.

"We missed a lot of tackles right off the bat in the second half," Punxsy head coach Alan Nichol said. "I don't think anything really changed. It was just a grind-it-out game on a hot night, and fatigue probably played a factor. Their skill definitely played a part, but I think fatigue did, too."

Brookville falls in a shootout at St. Marys

ST. MARYS — The Brookville Raiders football squad opened its season as it headed to Dutch Country Stadium Friday night to take on the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen.

The Raiders were ousted by a final score of 34-28.

Brookville's quarterback Steven Kennedy led the team with 151 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Ryan Kerr was also a standout for the Raiders, rushing for more than 130 yards and scoring a 21-yard touchdown.

Brookville head coach Chris Dworek said after the game that his team was just not quite ready for the season-opener.

Chucks prepared for opener against DuBois

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The forecast for DuBois, 7 p.m. tonight: Sunny and 78 degrees.

Perfect weather for Punxsy's opening game against the Beavers.

Punxsy head coach Alan Nichol hopes that means a good turnout to support his team on the road.

"It looks like we'll have a nice night, and we're not very far away," he said. "We have won 18 games in a row, and that doesn't happen often. There's no other sport like it where you can get that nice large crowd to come out and support you."

Devin Mesoraco makes his MLB debut

CINCINNATI — Devin Mesoraco’s journey to the Major Leagues started June 1, 2007, when he was drafted in the first round with the 15th pick of the Major League Draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

That journey ended Thursday, when Mesoraco was called up from the AAA Louisville Bats and placed on the Reds’ 40-man roster.
Now, a new journey has begun.

Since he was a young man, right here in Punxsutawney, Mesoraco has been a standout athlete, but at every new level comes a new question: Can he stand out at this level with the elevated competition?

Rebert’s defense seeks to suppress some evidence

BROOKVILLE — An evidence suppression hearing was held Thursday in the case of an Emporium man facing charges for the double murder of a Snyder Township couple in 2010.

Thursday, attorneys for defendant Steven Patrick Rebert filed several motions in the Court of Common Pleas to have Judge John H. Foradora suppress certain pieces of evidence that were introduced by District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett through cross examination of Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police Tpr. David Ray, the criminal investigation assessment officer.
