Chucks prepared for opener against DuBois

September 1, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The forecast for DuBois, 7 p.m. tonight: Sunny and 78 degrees.

Perfect weather for Punxsy's opening game against the Beavers.

Punxsy head coach Alan Nichol hopes that means a good turnout to support his team on the road.

"It looks like we'll have a nice night, and we're not very far away," he said. "We have won 18 games in a row, and that doesn't happen often. There's no other sport like it where you can get that nice large crowd to come out and support you."

Devin Mesoraco makes his MLB debut

September 1, 2011

CINCINNATI — Devin Mesoraco’s journey to the Major Leagues started June 1, 2007, when he was drafted in the first round with the 15th pick of the Major League Draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

That journey ended Thursday, when Mesoraco was called up from the AAA Louisville Bats and placed on the Reds’ 40-man roster.
Now, a new journey has begun.

Since he was a young man, right here in Punxsutawney, Mesoraco has been a standout athlete, but at every new level comes a new question: Can he stand out at this level with the elevated competition?
