PUNXSUTAWNEY — The battle of the band continues.

Monday, Cheryl Hollis and her daughter, Karah, addressed the Punxsutawney Area School Board during the 10-minute public comment portion of its agenda on the issue of why Karah cannot participate in the PAHS Marching Band.

At issue: Is marching band a curricular or an extra-curricular activity? The Hollises claim it is extra-curricular, citing after-school-hours, preparation and rehearsals, while Superintendent Dr. Keith Wolfe says it is a graded, curricular activity that is part of concert band.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy girls' golf team played host to the four teams in its division Monday at the Punxsutawney Country Club and walked away with a still-undefeated record, scoring the lowest team total (228) and defeating DuBois, Brookville, Ridgway and Brockway.

Because Punxsy was the host, each team scored against Punxsy, so Punxsy's record, 1-0 entering the day, improved to 5-0 after the sweep.

Punxsy was led by Sarah London, who shot a 52 on the nine-hole course.

Chucks back in driver's seat after win at DuBois

September 12, 2011

DUBOIS — When it rains, it pours. And when it pours, it makes it difficult to maintain the rough at a golf course. But the deep rough wasn't enough to slow the Punxsy boys' golf team, as it defeated DuBois at the DuBois Country Club Monday afternoon, 178-194.

By winning, Punxsy avenged a 162-165 loss at the Punxsutawney Country Club Aug. 29 and put its destiny in its own hands headed into a match at Brookville next Tuesday.

"If we beat Brookville a week from (today), Bradford will come here for the AML championship," Punxsy head coach Josh Conrad said.
