August 5, 2011

COVODE — Jefferson County Control reported an overturned tractor-trailer was leaking fluid — possibly diesel fuel and acid, according to scanner transmissions — around 11:40 p.m. Thursday night along Route 119 in the Covode area.

Fire crews and fire police from Punxsutawney closed Route 119 from Route 210 south toward the scene.

Scanner transmissions also indicated the people in the area of the crash were evacuated.

Also responding to the scene were Perry Township firefighters, Indiana County's Hazmat unit and PennDOT, among others.

August 5, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Little League complex will be just as crowded this weekend as it was last weekend, and for a very similar reason.

This time, though, softball will be the sport highlighted instead of baseball, as 20 teams from across the region will play in four different age groups: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16.

Punxsy will be represented in three of the age brackets.
