PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Punxsy Fezell Enterprises Junior Legion baseball team left 13 runners on base, scoring only one run, and lost the first of a best-of-three-game playoff series against Blairsville Kovacic Insurance 11-1 Friday night in Punxsutawney.
The loss was Punxsy's first in 14 games, as it ended the regular season with a 13 game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Punxsy is still alive in the opening round of the playoffs.
"We're not out of it yet," Punxsy manager Mike Klingensmith said. "We've got lots of good ball players, and we're going to go out there and get them tomorrow."
ROSSITER â€” The Rossiter Miners improved their record to 10-8 with a 7-0 victory against the Brookville Grays Friday night in Federation League action.
The Miners are now in a heated competition with the Grays for the second seed in the Fed League playoffs, which will begin Wednesday.
"We're excited with either second or third," Rossiter manager Rick Matthews said about his team's playoff seeding. "We're just excited to be up there."
Rossiter's offense was led by Jordan Mesoraco, who was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
He also scored one run.
WARREN â€” Leading 6-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Punxsy's 10-&11-year old baseball All-Stars scored seven runs in their half of the inning to defeat Warren, 13-2 in four innings, via the ten-run rule Thursday night in Warren.
With the win, Punxsy advances in the losers' bracket for a re-match with DuBois, which lost to St. Marys Thursday, today at 4 p.m. in Punxsutawney.
Punxsy's John Serian drove in four runs and finished off the game with a walk-off grand slam in the fourth.
Matt Blose and Alexander Neal led off the seven-run inning for Punxsy with a pair of walks.

BROOKVILLE â€” Friday, the Jefferson County Salary Board unanimously approved Michelle Fusco, the current adult victim witness coordinator, to take over as coordinator of the juvenile victim witness program.
The programâ€™s current coordinator, Dan Leonard, is retiring.
District Attorney Jeff Burkett made the motion, which was seconded by Jeff Pisarcik, county commissioner, to add the juvenile position to Fuscoâ€™s job description.
