BROOKVILLE â The Brookville Minor League Baseball All-Stars had a landslide 32-1 win in four innings over Brockway during their first home tournament game Tuesday night.
Every player for Brookville scored at least once. Every batter also had one or more hits. Brookville totaled 29 hits on the night.
"It was a real good way to start (the tournament at home)," Brookville manager Jeff Caylor said. "It was a good win; the kids hit the ball really well."
Brookville's next game will be at 6 p.m. Friday at DuBois, which took down St. Marys 10-0 in four innings Tuesday.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â About 18 months after the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club issued a cease-and-desist order to prevent an ad for TruTVâs new show âNFL Full Contactâ from airing during the second quarter of Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, the case has been settled.
Monday, Groundhog Club Vice-President Mike Johnston said the club, working with the Pittsburgh law firm of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, settled with TruTV and its parent companies, Turner Broadcasting, Time Warner and Grey Global Group.
Lisa Styslinger, of Punxsutawney, enjoyed her ride on the flying dragons at Tuesdayâs Old Home Week Carnival. The carnival continues tonight at 6 p.m. at the grounds located behind the Punxy Plaza.
My love for animals has grown tremendously over the past year. Last summer, I spent three months in Washington, D.C., interning at Double R Productions. I had the experience to complete a civil service project while I was there. For this project, I found an animal shelter, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, based out of Washington.
Lucky Dog is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them.
The Rev. James W. Kane, 83, a retired United Methodist minister, of Erie, died Friday, June 24, 2011, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928, in NuMine, a son of the late William and Geneva Kane.
After the death of his parents, he went to live with his aunt, Lucille E. Klouse and her husband Andrew, and following Andrewâs death, William E. Walton.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â More than six months of planning, day-to-day research and organization has finally come to a fulfilling completion with the recent production of Philâs 125th Birthday Celebration book, "1886-2011: Groundhog Day, 125 Years" created by The Punxsutawney Spirit.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â "Someday when I grow up, I'm going to run off and join the carnival," has been a threat said by many children over the years when arguing with their parents.
Some kids actually attempted to follow through with that threat, but there are some children who were born into the carnival lifestyle, such as Tabby Fain of Mayo, Fla., who owns and operates the fried dough and funnel cake stand on the J&J Amusement midway today through Saturday during the Punxsutawney Fire Department's Old Home Week Celebration.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â After Brookville scored two runs to tie the score in the top of the sixth, Punxsy's McKenzie Atcheson hit a walk-off single with two outs on a bang-bang play at first base to drive in Sam Satterlee and give Punxsy a 10-9 win in Little League softball All-Star action Monday night in Punxsutawney.
Punxsy's next game will be against DuBois, who sent Punxsy to the losers' bracket with an 11-0 win Saturday. The rematch will be played Wednesday night in DuBois.
ST. MARYS â Joey DiPietro threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, and Jacob Tyger hit a two-run home run during the Punxsy Little League baseball All-Stars' 5-0 tournament-opening victory Monday night at St. Marys.
DiPietro surrendered just two hits, Punxsy didn't commit an error, and Punxsy's five hits came from four players during a total team effort.
1. I didn't get a chance to mention this last week, but the teams that Punxsy's baseball and softball teams lost to in the PIAA playoffs â Northern York for baseball, Valley for softball â both won a state title. For the Lady Chucks, that's three-straight years they were eliminated by the eventual state champion, and if you count their 2006 state title game defeat, that's four times in six years. Sometimes having bad luck schedule-wise can lead to your season ending sooner than expected.
