Lt. Col. Charles Augustus Lindbergh Henry, 80, Big Run, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Henderson Township, one of 13 children to Joseph Newton and Ethel Faye (Deemer) Henry.

Three Chucks selected for Lezzer Lumber Football Classic

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Most graduating seniors played their final football game as a representative of the Chucks last November, but three of those now-graduated seniors have been chosen to represent Punxsutawney in the 27th-annual Lezzer Lumber Football Classic, which will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Bald Eagle Area Alumni Field in Wingate.

PSP fire marshal: Big Run Carpet fire was arson

BIG RUN — The Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is now treating the investigation into the cause of a fire that destroyed Big Run Carpet early Sunday as a case of arson.

Cpl. Charles Gross, Troop-C fire marshal, said the fire that destroyed the business on Thompson Street in Big Run is undetermined at this time.

Gross said he has several samples that he took from the burned-out store that have been sent to the PSP crime lab.

It must be summer: Old Home Week is next week

PUNXSUTAWNEY — A long-standing summertime tradition returns next week, as the Punxsutawney Fire Department will hold its Old Home Week Tuesday through Saturday at the carnival grounds located behind the west side of the Punxy Plaza.

Tami McFarland, president of the Old Home Week committee, said the carnival has actually been located in several different locations around town, including Maple Avenue at the baseball fields; Mahoning Street downtown; the National Guard Armory on North Findley Street; and now behind the Punxy Plaza.

East American owner offers reward after vehicle stolen from property

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The owner of East American Motorsports, Route 119, is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for stealing an expensive utility vehicle from the premises.

Brian Setree, who has owned and operated East American at its Route 119 location for 10 years, said actors stole a 2011 Polaris Ranger 800XP Limited Edition valued at $11,800.99 between 2 and 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
