PUNXSUTAWNEYâ Punxsy baseball coach Mike Dickey said anyone who comes to watch the Chucks play this season needs to keep one thing in mind about his team.
Punxsy isn't a team where any opponent can feel safe with its lead.
After failing behind 8-0 in the second inning, the Chucks (8-7) scored 21 runs over the next five innings to earn a five-inning, 21-11 mercy rule decision over Hollidaysburg Monday.

1. It was disappointing to watch the closing moments of the Punxsy-DuBois boysâ tennis district team championship match last Wednesday. Iâm not saying this is the reason DuBois won and Punxsy lost, but for a district title, the players on the court shouldnât be deciding if balls are in or out of bounds. A lot of credit goes to Punxsy, and Dave Roberts in particular, for taking the rulings as they were, not complaining and playing through it all.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â State Sen. Joe Scarnati recalled Monday how when he was first elected president pro tem of the state Senate, his colleague, state Rep. Sam Smith was also elected House minority leader.
Scarnati recalled saying to Smith how great it would be one day if he were president pro tem, and Smith was elected Speaker of the House.
Scarnati recalled Smith saying, âI just hope thereâs enough time.â
BIG RUN â The Big Run Arch Bridge replacement is nearly complete, as the new span was open to traffic once again Monday evening.
The project, which began last summer, is almost finished, as work on the tie-ins to the bridge need to be completed and the temporary road needs removed.
Deborah L. Casadei, M.B.A., District Press officer for PennDOT Engineering District 10, said the traffic pattern change occurred Monday evening.
The bridge over Big Run Creek is located between Smyers and Caroline streets in Big Run.
Norma Grace Altman, 83, Rochester Mills, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Allegheny General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late John and Iva Mae (Uber) Charlton.
June 1, 1946, she married Harold W. (Jock) Altman Jr., who preceded her in death May 19, 2001.
Mrs. Altman was a member of the Covode United Methodist Church and the Mahoning Hills Senior Center.
James âJimâ Howard Elkin, 76, Shelocta, (Plumcreek Township), died Monday, May 16, 2011, at home with his loving family and friends.
He was born July 23, 1934, on a farm close to Smicksburg, the son of the late James Elmer and Ruth (Alcorn) Elkin.
He was married to Mary C. (Thomey) Elkin, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Elkin was a retired staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force and a member and past commander of VFW Post 6555 in Sagamore.
Lisa (Noerr) Rivera, 33, Kearneysville, W. Va., formerly of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
She was born Aug. 10, 1977, a daughter of Harry E. and Carol (Stahlman) Noerr, who survive, of Punxsutawney.
May 5, 2006, she married Daniel R. Rivera, who survives.
She was an elementary school teacher at the Prince William County School District in Virginia.
