Cloe Lake stocked with trout

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Despite the unpredictable weather, there’s one event that can’t be stopped: The stocking of trout in area creeks, streams and Cloe Lake.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission made its traditional trek from Bellefonte to the Bell Township lake located Tuesday, with the season scheduled to open at 8 a.m. next Saturday.

Rick Vlazak, Jefferson County waterways conservation officer, said the commission has been stocking since March, and next week, will conclude the pre-season trout stockings throughout the Commonwealth.

Astorino to be inducted into the Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Gary Astorino, a 1976 graduate of PAHS, is among the six inductees into the Punxsutawney Sports Hall of Fame.

During his high school career, Astorino was a three-year letterman/starter and captain in wrestling, football and senior legion baseball. He was a four-year starter in wrestling for Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and was captain during his junior and senior years.

Punxsy crushes St. Marys 12-2, open season 2-0

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsy's junior varsity softball team used a six run third inning to cruise past St. Marys 12-2 in five innings Thursday afternoon in Punxsy.

The Lady Chucks (2-0), who finished the game with 14 hits, limited St. Marys (0-1) to five hits.

Punxsy's Sarah London and Ashley Bacha combined to shut down the Lady Dutch's line up, striking out eight batters. London struck out three batters over the first three innings, allowing two runs, but picked up the win.

Gary Lee Pontani, 65

Gary Lee Pontani, 65, Starford, went to be with his Lord Thursday, April 7, 2011, at UPMC-Shadyside, Pittsburgh.

He was born March 25, 1946, in Indiana, a son of the late Herman Armand and Dorothy Aileen (Shaw) Pontani.

Mr. Pontani started his career as a postmaster in Starford, then went on to Clymer, Homer City and finally retired as postmaster of the Punxsutawney Post Office.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Indiana VFW Post 1989, a former member of the 40-8 Club and NAPUS.

Mr. Pontani was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
