The Zak Zone

December 1, 2011

Two weeks ago, I wrote about the always-dreaded lulls between my favorite seasons: Football, hockey and baseball seasons. Last week, I wrote about how thankful I am for the memories I have had the opportunity to make with those who mean the most to me.

This week, I'd like to say a few words about one of the seasons I forgot to mention which has brought me many cherished, joy-filled memories with loved ones: Hunting season.

December 1, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — If you think Black Friday is a sure sign that Christmas is coming, here’s another one: The Punxsy Salvation Army is holding its Red Kettle kickoff event today at County Market.

The biggest fund-raiser of the year for the corps is already down $3,000 from this time last year, said Captain Keith Jache, co-corps commander in Punxsy.

He said the kickoff will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today through Saturday, and is another way to let the community know that the kettles are in full swing.
