Chucks smoke West Shamokin, 35-6

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It wasn't officially Senior Night in Punxsutawney Friday night, but entering the game, the Chucks knew it was their seniors' final game, and they honored their eight seniors by grinding their way to a 35-6 victory over the West Shamokin Wolves.

Week 10 downfall for the Raiders

NEW BETHLEHEM — Two quick second-quarter touchdowns for Redbank Valley were difficult for the Brookville Raiders to combat Friday night, and they fell 20-7 in the final week of the regular season.

"It was extremely disappointing," Raiders head coach Chris Dworek said. "All the positive things we did the last few weeks, and to end Week 10 like this is just disappointing."

SS.C.D., local schools celebrate $149,000 donation for scholarships

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Private schools celebrated the Pennsylvania’s Educational Income Tax Credit (EITC) program and Bridge Educational Foundation at SS.C.D. School Friday.

The Bridge Education Foundation and its donors —CSX Transportation, RBC Capital Markets, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and XTO Energy — were on hand at the Catholic school to announce $149,000 in EITC scholarships for local families.

State Sen. Joe Scarnati, president pro tempore, and state Rep. Sam Smith, speaker of the state House, were in attendance to show their support for the EITC program and the local schools.
