PUNXSUTAWNEY â Progress continues at a rapid rate on the Grace Place senior living apartment complex located at Pine Street and North Gilpin Street as numerous public officials, including Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson, 5th Congressional district, along with Rep. Sam Smith, speaker of the Pennsylvania House, received a tour Friday.
Thompson said Grace Place being constructed in Punxsy, and not out of town, makes it a great asset to the community.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Mere days away from Halloween, the youngsters at Creative Garden LLC, Airport Road, Bell Township, donned their costumes Friday for some special guests who helped celebrate a ribbon-cutting for their pre-school/daycare facility.
Owner Erin Cameron was joined by friends, family, staff and the children, of course, as she celebrated the culmination of a dream borne from baby-sitting children in her home in 2006, before earning her facility license in 2007.
Darlene Joy Beer, 64, Mayport, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the Clarion Hospital.
She was born August 23, 1947, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of Raymond M. and Mary S. (Myers) Beer.
Ms. Beer worked at the Sher-Bren Factory in Hawthorn and also at the Big Run Shoe Factory.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Mary Pauline âPollyâ Beer of Mayport.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Beer, Leroy Beer and an infant brother; and three sisters, Shirley Palmer, Dorothy Firment and an infant sister.
C. Donn Schenkemeyer Jr., 63, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.
He was born June 2, 1948, in Johnstown, a son of the late Clifford D. and Malissa (Redfoot) Schenkemeyer.
He operated a private law practice and was a Jefferson County public defender.
Mr. Schenkemeyer was a member of the Lutheran Church.
He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 301, the Rotary Club, the Jefferson County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Mr. Schenkemeyer graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1966.
