PUNXSUTAWNEY — In rainy, windy and soggy conditions Saturday at Jack LaMarca Stadium, the Punxsy boys' soccer team was able to maintain an upbeat tempo en route to a 5-0 win over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders.
The Chucks jumped on the Crusaders early when Brycen Lunger fired a shot at the net in the first minute of the game. Elk County's keeper came out to play the ball, but Punxsy's Tyler Presloid beat him to it and headed it just out of his reach, and the ball rolled into the cage giving Punxsy a very-early 1-0 lead.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy Lady Chucks soccer team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against Elk County Catholic Saturday morning in Punxsutawney, but after evening the score just before halftime, the Lady Crusaders scored three second-half goals to earn a 4-1 victory.
"We came out good, and I don't know if it was the field or what," Punxsy head coach Kevin Hughes said after the game. "We drew first blood, but then we just kind of lost it. I don't know if it was conditioning or what happened."
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Once again, it was another successful year for Fox's Pizza Den's "Pizza and Prevention" fund-raiser, as more than $31,000 was raised for the Punxsutawney Fire Department Saturday.
Despite the rainy weather, the locally owned Punxsutawney pizza shop sold 3,444 Big Daddy Pizzas — a record breaker — 12 percent more than last year, which also broke records with sales of 3,072 pizzas, said Scott Anthony, owner of Fox's in Punxsy.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — There was a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 10:40 a.m. Saturday on Route 310 north near the Elk Run Firehall.
According to Punxsutawney Borough Police, a Toyota Corolla driven by Tanya R. Hoover, Rossiter, was traveling north on Route 310 near the Elk Run Firehall when a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Steven E. Przybrowski, DuBois, stopped in front of her vehicle, which struck the rear of his Blazer.
Police said the crash caused major damage to Hoover's vehicle, while Przybrowski's vehicle sustained minor damage.

Mary Elizabeth Mohney, 72, Reynoldsville, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Lancaster General Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1939, in Reynoldsville, a daughter of the late Clair A. and Mabel Elizabeth (Hollenbaugh) Douthitt.
Sept. 14, 1968, she married Glenn Francis Mohney, Sr., who survives. They enjoyed 43 years together.
Mrs. Mohney was a member of the Bollinger Bible Church.
For more than 10 years, she sold Tupperware, which she enjoyed because she liked talking with people.
She really enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting and working on puzzles.
Ellen Marie Stear, 85, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center, DuBois.
She was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Gourley S. and Hazel A. (Vanderpool)Â Bair.
She was married to Ermond L. Stear, who preceded her in death Jan. 21, 2004.
A homemaker, Mrs. Stear was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church of Juneau.
