PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks avenged a five- set loss to DuBois earlier this season by bouncing back on their home court and sweeping the Lady Beavers in three sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20, Thursday evening in Punxsutawney.
From the beginning of the game, the Lady Chucks came out swinging with confidence and defending well when they needed to as Punxsy jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in Set No. 1 behind five service points by senior setter Cassie Cook.
During Cook's run, she recorded an ace, and Punxsy hitter Sydney Weaver recorded two blocks.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks tennis team finished its regular season on a high note Thursday by defeating Brockway 9-0, capping a successful week that saw two team victories and a District IX doubles championship.
"All of the girls played well tonight," Punxsy head coach Rose Graffius said. "It was a nice ending to a good season."
The No. 1 and No. 2 sin-gles contests were the closest of the evening, with Punxsy's Anna Monyak defeating Brittany Johnson 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and Shaina Reddinger defeating Abigail Larson 5-7, 6-2, 10-5.
BROCKWAY — The scoreboard may not reflect it, but the Lady Chucks turned in an impressive performance Thursday night at Brockway, according to Punxsy head coach Kevin Hughes.
The Lady Chucks fell to the Lady Rovers 4-0, but Hughes said he was impressed with the way his team responded, especially given the fact that they were playing on Brockway's home turf—literally.
Brockway plays on field turf, which often allows for a faster game, and Hughes said he was glad to see his team pick up the pace and contend with the older Lady Rovers.
