Jim Koch, founder of The Boston Beer Company and brewer of Samuel Adams, said he hasnât received any special advice for his upcoming visit to Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day.
Well, maybe one piece of advice.
ââJust bring some beer,ââ he said Thursday. âThatâs my role. They have their jobs, and I just need to bring the beer.â
Koch, who brewed his first batch of beer in his kitchen in the mid-80s with his great-grandfatherâs recipe for Louis Koch Lager, will be inducted as an honorary member of the Inner Circle, and he will also be the guest speaker at the Groundhog Banquet.
PUNXSUTAWNEY âÂ An important part of the Groundhog Day festivities is the excitement generated by a group known as Philâs Dancers, selected each year at PAHS by math teacher and Inner Circle Stump Warden Ron Ploucha.
This yearâs dancers were selected in November and include Mia Anderson, Melissa Blose, Tawnee Bowers, Danielle Knopick, Megan Muth, Samantha Osikowicz, Allie Shields and Krystin Vanderpool.
ALTOONAâ The Punxsy eighth-grade boysâ basketball team couldnât keep up with Altoona Maroon during the second half of a 30-20 loss Wednesday in Altoona.
With the game tied at 13 at halftime, Punxsy had kept up with Altoona.
In the second half, Punxy couldn't keep up, and Altoona outscored the Chucks (5-6) 17-7.
Ryan Sloniger scored a team-best nine points for the Chucks, and Dakota Thomas added six points.
Adam Ferko hit the boards for Punxsy and added some extra hustle, and Andrew Fedigan also helped keep Punxsy competitive.
LEWISTOWN â The Punxsy wrestling team had its share of ups and downs at the Lewistown Duals last Saturday, and by the end of the tournament, the Chucks registered a 3-2 record.
Punxsy started out strong by beating Wellsboro, 42-27, and upsetting host school Lewistown, 37-30. What followed were a pair of losses to Altoona, 45-33, and Greensburg Salem, 35-29.
The Chucks then finished strong at the end of the tournament, blowing by Harrisburg, 51-17, thanks to five forfeits.
During the event, both Kody Young and Neko Cappella went undefeated, as both grapplers finished 5-0.
